We already did games, but what about albums, what album would you say kicked ass above all others? - please post your reasoning too.

I'll get the ball rolling...

Queens of the Stoneage - Lullabies to Hypnotize
I always liked QotS, but they were never one of my favourite bands - but this latest album just rocks, every track is destinctive and it's just one of those albums that you don't get sick of listening to. My favourite tracks are 'I never came' and 'Monsters in the Parasol'.

Does it count it was released in another year, but we only bought it this year? The only 2005 album I bought was Jamiroquai's Dynamite. It has it's moments, but about 5 of the tracks are just formulaic durge.

In place, I nominate a track off Miami Sound and I gotta say, any man who can reach this note should win a medal of some sort.

EDIT: I'm waiting for Jimmy or one of his possie to post something like "Aqua : Barbie girl"

Kaiser Chiefs - Employment.

I just really, really, really, really, really like it. There's loads of variation in the tracks, best would be Oh My God or Caroline, Yes or You Can Have It All or NA Na Na Na Naa or Modern Way, or, well, or any of them.

Hmm got a few favs this year.

Grand Avenue - She
Liked the first album since seeing the excellently done video over at CGTalk. This album is even better.

Jack Johnson - In Between Dreams
Great for chilling out to, especially like 'Constellations'

Mercury Rev - The Secret Migration
Again nice relaxing tunes. Takes a few listens but a great album.

I agree that Queens of the Stoneage and Kaisercheifs are both on top form recently.

Best album of the year? Um anything 9thlife, preferably the new 3paw CD If I had to mention a commercial album, the New Kanye West one is near faultless for productions (dodges tomatoes)

Bizzarely enough recently I'm listenning to Perry Como whilst programming! It seems to chill me out and a few of the songs are festive...

Beck - Guero

Beck continues to reinvent himself with every new album. All we can tell is whether he's doing blues, pseudo-rap, electronic, folk, alternative, or pop, his chameleon-like persona melds into the form like a seasoned veteran of the genre.

I recommend that one to EVERYONE (especially the more expensive DVD version with extra songs).

2nd place - Daft Punk - Human After All

EDIT - Changed Daft Punk album name :-P

Jeku - About 4 years ago I use to love daft punk! I had all their albums (and still do) I don't particularly listen to them now, I'm more Heavy Metal/Metal/Rock style now.

This year:

Blink 182's Greatest Hits
The Offsprings Greatest Hits

Both are very fun to listen to! There isn't really a bad trak on the OGHs but the first few and a couple towards the end on BGHs aren't 'great'.

Not this year:

New Found Glory - Sticks and Stones

I cannot express just how fun this album is to listen to. The best tracks are 'Sonny' and 'The Story so Far' - but ever song on that album is worth listening to!

It's been out since early this year, but it's not as good as Discovery, unfortunately. Discovery is one of the greatest albums of all-time

Yes Discovery was amazingly well produced

Blink 182 and Offspring are two of the best "pop punkrock" style bands ever, no matter what anyone says. Shame the "greatest Hits" compilations miss off many of their cool early stuff... Greenday are still putting together good songs too, although they'll probably never top Nimrod or Dookie

Totally one of the dualdiscs of Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band's albums. Either Swingin' For the Fences or XXL.

Yeah, they just made it a dualdisc, but it's still AWESOME.

No! - not on my thread...

We can't allow those 'Greatest Hits' albums that they all pump out in time for christmas, and Ali - I love KoRn, but that album was years ago, and their new album is well below par (it's just not the same without Head).

My bad. They're not greatest hits though, they're just remastered and stuck on a dualdisc. Hmmmm... that's probably even worse than a greatest hits anyway. Heh heh.

I got a real one this time.

Slipknot are a decent band when they actually act like a band and no a rable of mentally ill people.

The only good Slipknot songs are:

My Plauge
Left Behind
Duality (and even that barely makes this list)

This Godless Endeavor by Nevermore

I picked this album because good metal is getting harder and harder to find with the dominance of Nu Metal but this band sticks to classic metal style but is orginal on their own. This album demonstrates some religious and political lyrical content(much is a metal album). Jeff Loomis of Nevermore is an amazing guitarist so thats another reason its a good album.

God modelled man in his own reference image.

Alice in Chains - Jar of Flies (1994)

or if you want something more recent:

Audioslave - Out of Exile (2005)

And worst album of the year and I'm not afraid to say it!
Green Day - American Idiot

Phaelax - While I don't agree with the new Green Day album being the worst of the year(because there are 3 songs I absolutely love on there, Jesus of Suburbia, Homecoming, and St. Jimmy) I would have to say it doesn't compare to their older stuff.

Another submission for best album this year from me would be "Fallout Boy - Under The Cork Tree" as that one is freaking awesome!

Voodoo Monkey (wow, who could have guessed you would change your name again), you have just receieved a 24 hour ban for bypassing the swear filter AFTER being warned already in this thread. Please use this time to read a dictionary, there are hundreds of other adjectives that can be used to describe bands, none of which are in the least bit offensive. Thank you.

The Pixies- Wave Of Mutilation.
Well, it was released 2004 and it's the same old stuff that I have on vinyl... but still, it's a Pixies album, so it can't be bad.
