That's my own personal call to arms, not a new version of the game featuring machine guns or anything.

I know Nicholas plays this game. I'm gonna go and pick up my wheel and pedals today and bring em back to my parents house this xmas so I can get some hours in on the LFS tracks. If any of you guys are playing this and wanna get in on the action too, it'd be cool to meet up for a big race meeting. I'm thinking GTRs on blackwood, but we can try everything out. I'm fully licensed S2, so not just the demo version.

Reply to this thread if you're up for it!

Am I up for it? Durrrr... Of course I am!!!

Haven't had time to play it for a while (about 20 minutes in the last 2 months I think)...

My personal favourite is the FOX car. Its like a sensible F1 car. The F1 car in LFS is plain mental, it just skids everywhere!! Lol. At least with the fox, when it skids you have some form of chance to catch it. There is a track I use more than blackwood but I cant remember it. Its really good for overtaking as it has a lot of corners you can outbreak into and lots of long straights (rather like Blackwood in that respect)...

I have never played call to arms before though - is it worth investing in? I've played Battlefield 2 and its EXCELENT when played online.

Its (imho) the best racing game you can get at the moment. Graphically, its great (not the best, but its certainnly better than some!) and the physics are 100% spot on. Some people dont like the physics, but I personally do. You can feel the subtle changes to the handling that you get from chaning things like the anti roll bars, suspension strength, ride height, tow, camber, tyre compound, tyre pressure, fuel level and more.

The demo is 100% free. You get 3 cars and 1 track (its varied with forward and backward versions of normal track and a short rally cross version). The cars in the demo are a small Renault Clio type car, a normally aspirated FR car and a turabo (I think) FR car. The cars are fictional in name, but you can clearly see links (especially with the mini and the F1 car).

Its released in 3 parts. They've done part 1 and 2 which cost £12 each I think. Me and Fallout have S2 (Part 2) which has about 6 tracks and about 16 cars. Go to that URL and get the demo for free

Ok, back with my wheel and pedals in the place.

Some people don't like the physics cos they can't drive for s**t!!! The game is difficult, and that's what makes it good. Anyone can limp round the circuit fine. Anyone can go reasonably fast in 20 laps of practice. But it takes days/weeks to get your setup spot on and really put in a damn good lap time!

If you get in on it too adrian, that'd be spot on. We'll have to play the demo tracks and stuff (I assume us registered users can still play with non-registered users?). I'm up for any car on any circuit though, it'll just take a little while to learn it, as I've only really raced 2 circuits properly.

The problem with the game is its addictive/challenging/rewarding enough to just play the same circuit and same car over and over. Having said that, I had a lot of fun a while back racing hatchbacks on a really tight circuit (can't remember which one it was) with huge curbs. The amount of people with stupidly stiff suspension rolling the cars when they hit the curbs was awesome. hehe.

No idea what that is mate. That's one of the car skins. I'd just try reinstalling it, and if that doesn't work, you must have a corrupt download.

DBMad - is that an error that it cant find the texture on YOUR machine? as in, are you chosing that texture fror your car? Normally, if it doesn't have it, it will download it from a player that does (normally the player using it).

I might play it tonight - you'll have to post when you're going to play it and what server you'll be on.

u shouldn't need to - if the client cant find the skin, it either tries to get it from the person who is using it, or just uses a default colour for the car...

Anywho, my skinds folder is about 15Mb compressed....

Hey, I do do MSN chap! I thought you just did ICQ!!!

Last night I found something I'm lovingly refering to called Clown Racing. It's the standard tracks, but with ramps and cones/tyre walls chucked in all over the place to make stunt circuits. Insane, but awesome.

Hit me up on MSN at keating_simon@hotmail.com

I'm gonna be on tonight loads, so we can hook up on MSN and get down to biznizz!

Fallout > I've got you added on MSN now...

Is it just me, or are you guys gonna have all sorts of uber leet cars to whomp my ass? There's me with my bloody minivan or whatever and you guys hitting the nitro... or whatever.

I've had a quick blast on the training and I must say, I do like the car physics. They're challenging.

have u got the demo?

I'm not great at it - just had a go online and got my ass whooped.. Lol!

I think Blackwood would be best as thats the demo track that we all have. As for cars - I personally like the rear wheel drive car (the second car in the list - the middle of the 3 demo cars)... I prefer the FOX, but the demo peeps cant get that.

time?

have u tried reinstalling? I'm uploading the skins folder to my website now... You shouldn't have this problem and, for me, its pointing at a larger issue (maybe out of hard disk space?)

Are you getting this when playing in single player or over the net?

Thats the skins folder. It goes in dataskins (ie in the skins folder there should be loads of JPGS).

That link is a self extracting 7z file. Its about 11Mb...

Have you tried reinstalling?

a different one I dont know where you live (and thats not for this forum) so just pick a mirror thats near you and not the one you chose last time? You also might want to report a possible broken archive to the LFS people... Which one you use last time? I might get it later to check it...

Sorry I dissapeared during that game, had to make dinner. Then had to watch a film I haven't seen in ages on Sky Movies

i just had another quick online bout... I'm VERY pants at it right now... kept spinning off!! I thought it was my setup, so I sent it to another guy who was racing. Within 2 laps he was getting 1.11's out of it on Blackwood with the FOX compared to my pathetic 1.14's!!!

Yeah, you definitely need the right setup and you definitely need to get in the zone. I was racing Aston National (think thats right), which is a newish track for me. All GTR racing. I've probably done 30 laps total on that track, and always come in the bottom 5 or so places (it's always full with with about 20 people racing).

I was blaming a lot of it on setup, as I haven't invested any time in working out a decent setup for that circuit. Then for some reason I was in pole position at the start, and held off the 2nd place guy for a whole lap, and we pulled away from 3rd place. I was in the zone for 2 laps, driving almost as fast as this guy who got passed me on the home straight. Then it went to s**t again, and I ended up in 7th. So it's a lot to do with practice and setup, but sometimes I think you just hit that zone and get everything right and just fly.

Think I'm gonna have to put in some single player time to work out a good setup for that car on that track, as that server is always rammed full, and it's damn good action.

Edit: Piccy. When you see a grid like this, and you're doing 160mph, you know something is bound to go wrong.

I must say I got the hang of it with the little clio-style car. Much more enjoyable experience when you're not constantly drawing circles in the grass.

We'll hook up tonight and I'll see if I can open up some more slots

When I get a job I'll buy S2.

Sounds good mate. Keep practicing! That's the name of the game with LFS. The full game is awesome, so when you get the fundage, make sure you pick it up.

I'm still really happy I found that stunt server. In fact, i thought it was so cool, I made myself a new car skin for next time it opens. It was cool doing hand brake turns, jumps and powerslides. It's the only gaming style where you can get two punctures and cave in the whole front and still have a chance of winning, if only you can limp over the line.

Yep. Just get a paint package. Go to the LFS site and there's a proggy on their that allows you to view all the cars in a showroom type thing.

You load up one of the default skins in the Viewers skin directory into you paint program, and rename it. So load up XRT_DEFAULT.JPG and rename it to XRT_Blahlblah.JPG. In the viewer program you can then select it to skin your car. Then as you work on the skin in your paint package and save it, it appears on the car.

When you're happy with it, save it into your S2>DATA>SKINS directory, and you can then select it for your car when setting it up. If you go to your LFS control panel, you can upload it there and then everyone else will download it automatically when they see you online.

This LFS control panel .... I'm still impressed by it. It's a really nice touch to the game to have a windows type desktop full of everything you need to customise your LFS experience. In case you've not checked it out yet, www.lfsworld.net and use your S2 login and password. It's like a windows desktop, so you need to double click icons (and you can move them around to). Dont do what I did and click the once like hyperlinks, and wonder why nothing was happening.
