Yeah, you definitely need the right setup and you definitely need to get in the zone. I was racing Aston National (think thats right), which is a newish track for me. All GTR racing. I've probably done 30 laps total on that track, and always come in the bottom 5 or so places (it's always full with with about 20 people racing).
I was blaming a lot of it on setup, as I haven't invested any time in working out a decent setup for that circuit. Then for some reason I was in pole position at the start, and held off the 2nd place guy for a whole lap, and we pulled away from 3rd place. I was in the zone for 2 laps, driving almost as fast as this guy who got passed me on the home straight. Then it went to s**t again, and I ended up in 7th. So it's a lot to do with practice and setup, but sometimes I think you just hit that zone and get everything right and just fly.
Think I'm gonna have to put in some single player time to work out a good setup for that car on that track, as that server is always rammed full, and it's damn good action.
Edit: Piccy. When you see a grid like this, and you're doing 160mph, you know something is bound to go wrong.
