I'm putting this in now, just in case I'm not able to post until after Christmas

The Year In Review

Well, this year hasn't been particularly good for me. Aside from getting a year older, I have had numerous laptops stolen (one set was while I was in Portmerion). What makes it even more annoying is that I wont know what's happening with the insurance until January, as apparently it takes 40 days to get a police report (which they have to pay, I think it was £70) to get.

I have complained, but that hasn't made any difference, so I'll probably complain again soon...

The guinea pig died during October – he was a lovely creature. The main cause was internal problems leading to an inability to eat or drink.

The dog is feeling is age, and has a tendency not to want to go out now. He's got arthritis in his back legs, so spends most of his days sleeping.

The cat has had some front teeth out (one was broken and the others were causing problems), but aside from that, according to the vet, he's very healthy.

The rabbit needs to go to the vet. The stupid animal has a tendency to sit in the rain and let his fur get knotted.

I did manage to get a game completed, but only one – I would have liked to have done more, but I have a tendacy to get bored with them half way through coding, which doesn't help.

At work, my programs have only recently started to be tested, even though they have been written for a couple of years now – most of the main program graphics still haven't been done (they are supposed to be brought in, but nothing has come of it).

One of out customers decided to upgrade to Sage V12, which means my interface program didn't work. And we had left Sage development Support... We (when I say we, I mean I – as I'm the only developer here - are supposed to be re-joining, but again, nothing has happened yet). And you think Mike & Lee are slow – try working here.

Got my Axim 51V – unfortunately the A04 NAND memory upgrade crashes the machine when ActiveSync 4.1 is used to sync files. Plus it does have interface problems. But aside from that it's fine...

My new laptops are working well, although Nero 7 doesn't like my Matshita drive.

And onto the good news :

Well, I did another spiffing convention this year. Thanks to all who turned up. Next one's one will organised by either Lagmaster or Mmemonix – and assuming they do actually organise anything, it should be even better. I hear rumours of Page 3 girls hosting some parts of it...
Hopefully I'll be turning up depending on whether I have enough money to...

Got Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 (its a very nice program, but seems to be very hard to buy). Its a shame DarkSDK isn't compatible with it yet, but I have having fun developing for the Axim 51V instead (converted my CMappy to it, and have simple DirectX class up and running). Its also not cheap – the standard version is around £130 on eBay.

Converting code to use the new security enhance functions is easy – should help to increase program stability. VS 2005 also now detects when the size of memory being copied wont fit into the destination location, which is pretty good.

Been playing Age Of Empires 3 a lot, and until recently Need For Speed:Most Wanted (needs time for that one). Aside from those few games, its been rather disappointed for PC games this year – hasn't been anything particularly interesting.

OpenOffice 2.0 came out, and side from a crash in the Powerpoint-like module, it seems pretty stable.

And so, that leads me to list what I'll like to see happen with DarkSDK/DBPro next year :

A) Finish dealing with all the bugs and test properly (when a set of changes has been made, resubmit it for evaluation again).
B) Get DarkSDK compatible with VS 2005
C) Get all TGC written expansion packs up and running
D) Finalise the DBO and DBW format – so exporters wont need to be continually updated
E) Get some more development and testing people in

Onwards and upwards for 2006 ehh!

'05 has been terrible for me, but I'm not gonna depress myself or anyone else with miserable details, so here's all my good news.

I did manage to find my brothers snake when it escaped, that was the highlight (poor Minty was freezing!). I got a game done for the puzzle compo and managed to wrangle 5th. Moved into a new flat. Got a new GFX card. The sarcastic amongst you can saw 'whoopie' now .

If all goes well, I should be running the country by the end of '06 and you'll all be my minions. Although I'd settle for a pay rise and a new chair.

05 has been a great year for me. I got married in the summer and had a son who is only 4 weeks old, so the last 4 weeks have been good and tough at the same time. Been a tough year money wise though so hopefully that improves next year. Probably the most eventful year in my life so far

Hmmm... 2005... Won some races, hosted Women's History Month for my wife's Battalion, made a game, started college, and drank a hell of a lot... a lot. I've also gotten into a couple of wild geek battles in the forums. I guess my comic delivery isn't as good in writing as it is in person. Too bad, but a productive year.

2005 was busy work wise - lots of websites written. I moved back to my home town in Essex after living in London for 10 years. Failed to finish writing game for puzzle compo. Tumble dryer broke today - most annoying.

Good news for 2006 is that I've just booked a 3 week holiday in Australia to escape the cold early next year.

Boo!

2005 was pretty good for me.

Finally got a real full-time job as a software engineer at a large game company (just this month!), finally can start paying off my debt, got a laptop (adding to my debt of course), my sister had a baby, finished my Bachelors degree, and --- that's all I can think of.

Things I wish I'd done but didn't:

- Composed new music--- it's been three years since I've done anything reasonably good.

This year I miserably failed at everything I set out to accomplish.

Except one thing which was fun.

I've started about eighty-two projects and only finished one...
Gotten bored of coding so I tried the 3d game maker, but got bored of that so I started a game called "Super Dude".

This year?

Let's see...

I got FPSC EA eagerly back in Febuary (I think, can't actually remeber, but I ordered it like an hour after release) and have been using it (and V1) ever since. I've started re-gripping the DB language after completely forgetting it, and I found out that we're going on a holiday to Australia later next year (Oh, no! Spooky beat me to it!) to see relatives. I got Indigo Prophecy (Or 'Fahrenheit', which I can't seem to stop talking about, I love it so much!), and it rocks! Got my PSP earlier in the year, read all of the Resident Evil novels, got wowed by RE4 for the GCN, and had an all-round fun year.

2006?

Well, like I said, I'm going to Australia later in the year, I'm thinking about an Xbox 360 (although I'll probably wait for the PS3; RE5 will look better on it !), I'm hoping to finish writing my novel (well, unless it takes a year to complete, I will finish my novel), and I'm already preparing for next year's NaNoWriMo.

So there you go.

Question - why does your avatar keep changing? It's unsettling. It's like the MOD witness protection plan keeps relocating you or something.
BTW, complete something small and dumb. It will help you, and you'll feel satisfied. And el Mafioso will stop chasing you.

2005:

Got my DS. Went to Thailand. Got food poisoning in Thailand. Played games. Played games. Got my Xbox 360. Played games on my new Xbox 360...

Hmm. I can't remember anything else I did in 2005... I think I have a memory leak of some kind
