this is a problem that have been bugging me for almost half a year now.

i have 3 desktop computers and 2 laptops in my house,
they all get access to internet but they dont get access to eachother.

all my computers exept one laptop are in the workgroup "mshome" while the laptop is in a domain (my laptop from work).

i have been searcing microsofts webpage for this error and i found two solutions but they are two things i allready tried and they didn't work. i've googled this problem too but i don find anyone else who have had this problem before

this is the kind of stuff i work with when im at work, so i am fairly skilled in networking and all of that, but this is one problem that really cracked my nut

here is my whole lan incase you need it:

This should be easy to fix. First you need to make sure that the computers that are in the workgroup "mshome" have the same subnet, and also the local IP within a range like this below:

192.168.2.*

The first three octets needs to be the same on those devices otherwise you'll be needing to use WINS server or direct IP connections. I have the same exact setup as you do, but this is the only tweak you need.

I didn't bother with Windows's wizards. None of them EVER work. The LAN cable simply shared internet access between computers, that's good enough for me..

yeah i understand that. all of the computers use this setup:

DNS: lan
DHCP: yes
IP: 10.0.0.x
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway, DNS, DHCP server: 10.0.0.138
Workgroup: MSHome

if i try to ping a computer, say "lukasw", i do this:
[quote]
ping lukasw

"pinging lukasw.lan (10.0.0.10) with 32 byte data"

"connection failed"
"connection failed"
"connection failed"
"connection failed"

Hmmm, here's what I'd do in your situation. The names I will use below correspond to your diagram.

- Router needs to DHCP its settings from the gateway/splitter.
- Change W-Router to a static IP, and have its settings for everything grabbed from the Router's IP.
- Change all PCs connected to the Router as static and use Router's IP for the DNS on them.
- Chance all PCs connected to the W-Router as static, and put their DNS address as the W-Router's IP.
