Not much on TV at Christmas. (Minority Report, and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation seem best.) Maybe you have time to get a DVD with your Christmas money. You want a good Christmasy type of Movie?

How about an award winning manga style cartoon?

Spirited Away.
This is an excellent choice for Christmas. Probably the best Manga style movie ever.

How about Ye Old Fashioned Musical?

Moulin Rouge.
You don't like musicals? Not even Wizard of Oz?
Try this anyway. It has modern pop music which has been remixed for the movie, and sung by Actors, and actresses. It is great!
Don't accidentally get the old version!!!

Action/Adventure
Some of the younger ones on here may have missed Blade Runner.
Or there's Unleashed.

What do others reccomend?..........

Pretty much all of Miyazaki's films are awesome. Because everyone's probably already seen Spirited Away (if not, step outside and crap yourself to death sinner), I'd also recommend Princess Mononoke and (lesserly) Howl's Moving Castle and Kiki's Delivery Service.

Other good films that you might not know:
- The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys (Unbelievably enjoyable + awesome music)
- City of God (Best. Film. Ever. EEVVVVVEER!!!)
- Waking Life (Kind of weird and a little annoying but also worth seeing)

Funny, I didn't really like Spirited Away, but I absolutely loved Princess Mononoke.

And no, I wouldn't recommend City of God for the Christmas season. It's just too... well, depressing for family enjoyment. However if I was spending this time of year alone I'd watch it again

I think UHF would be a great movie to stick on for the family during this season--- for some background noise. There's nothing dirty or vulgar--- just good clean humour.

And if you have kids, stick on Shrek or Shrek II--- my little nephew can watch that every day and he'll sit still for the 90 odd minutes or so, and that's a real feat!

I liked spirited away, and absolutely hated every other anime film ever...

If you haven't seen them, The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Supremacy are the two best films to watch on a cold Xmas night IMO. Such good stories, and enjoyable films.

I'll stick with A Christmas Story. Always a classic (though I am a big fan of Miyazaki).

For Miyazaki's, I'd recommend "My Neighbour Totoro" as the perfect Christmas heartwarmer. It paints a wonderful world of magic and is perfect for little kids and bigger kids who appreciate a bit of heartfelt magic.

How about the Chucky Movies, good for kids old and young! It's the story of a poor misfit play thing that Sanata won't even touch. So he kills everybody, awwww! I think I'm going to cry.

My family loves that one too. My Dad actually got a Red Ryder BB Gun when he was a kid... and still has it.

That movie never made it out here, either. I guess it doesn't have much foreign market appeal.

Oh the Charlie Brown Christmas special? Thats awesome! I love the way they all gather round the rubbsih christmas tree, wave their arms about randomly and a poor anaimate kinda way and when they move back away from it it looks perfect - always used to make me laugh as a kid.

Even better was when I recently tried to download it for my kids to watch (as a kid I owned a vhs copy somewhere but can't find it!) and I found a SNL version of it where after looking at the perfect tree they say "what did we just do?" "all I did was wave my arms around a bit?" and they use the same technique to turn an old banger into a ferrari, a hooker into Christina Aguilera, and patty and marcy into 20 year old nubile lesbians in bikinis

Did anyone watch Doctor Who? I really wanted to see it, but after staying awake all night finishing Quikly I fell into a weird hallucinagenic trance/sleep just after the christmas tree came alive and tried to kill them - ended up having a dream involving Billie Piper, not as fun as you might imagine, she was singing at me
