ok so i realized a while back that if i load a plain and texture it with a bitmap to use for say a HUD or menu, and if i ghost it every part of the bmp that is black will be completely see through. Well I need to load a bmp of an arrow. I don’t want it to be ghost. so i need to know how i can make everything around the arrow in the bmp completely see through. Making all the area around it black doesn’t work like it does with ghost, and when i make the picture of the arrow and the background transparent, that didn’t work either u just see the grayness from the plain.

any help would be appreciated

thanks

Cool that you got it sorted, but I'd suggest avoiding black transparency, use the colorkey command to set it to something else, I suggest RGB(255,0,255) - like a bright purple that is used quite a lot in sprite sheets, not likely to be used in the actual image.

There's also .png's which can give alpha transperency, these look better because you can add drop shadows and anti-aliasing which always helps avoid the ugly jaggies that single colour transparency leaves.

In my opinion all people that use Pro should only use .png because of it's abilities.

You can only change the transparent color in Pro (with "set image colorkey"). You can still use .png so you don't have to see a black background at all when editing pictures. The only thing that Classic can't do is keep all the alpha channels other than the main transparency.

I've attached an image that shows the differences in Classic and Pro using .png files and what it looks like loaded in Paint Shop Pro.
