Hi All,

Ok it must be hidden in xp somewhere but how do you reset xp home back to the state its was when you first turned it on.

A friend has killed something in there computer? it installs some games but will not let you run them, others won't even let you load them.

Ho, and restore had been turned off so thats of no help.

it even moans about a DBPro game I have made and even though directx9c installed, it wont run, moans about a dll, but I think its on there?, works ok on another friends machine.

So if someone might have a clue what to do, give a post and will see if it works.

cheers.

You could boot up the XP cd and choose "repair" from the options, the minus side to this is that it may ask you to re-activate I'm not certain.

Ok, but I don't think we have a cd only the one that come with a pre-installed xp, so it might get a bit ticky.

will give a try and see what happens.

open for any other idea.

Try a spyware scan first before you do something that drastic.

The standared two spywares have been run on it, but it as part to do with the bit that goes between the chair and keyboard, they had something that did not work some time back so they had a clicking time.

Got it to read cd's again which it was not doing but something somewhere is not switch on or off.

define "Standard 2 Spywares"
Adaware SE are and Spybot? Counter Spy is above them at the moment. But there are many "Standards" that aren't that good.

Recovery Concil is crap, and M$ knows it. All that will do is restore your registry and select files. If you have a viral infection, it doesn't fix it.

You CAN call M$ and ask them for a CD. Although they may charge shipping, and may ask for some info, so you better have registered with them and have your CD Key (should be a stiker that says "microsoft"). (Last time I did this was with a 98, so I am not certain of their policys now).

There is a download from Microsoft that allows you to get a set of Floppy XP boot disks. There are six disks to download, and they include the repair windows XP setting. I downloaded them yesterday.
