I spent my free time creating this little tech demo. It's partly inspired by the Earth in Civilization 4, for that's what made me want to make it. The design of the program is inspired by the samples in the DirectX SDK.

So here's a screenshot to feast your eyes on.

DBP Features applied:
- Custom Sprite GUI system
- Bump mapping
- Shadow shading
- Wireframe mode
- Alphablending
- Transparency
- 2 light sources + ambient lighting cycles
- Faked Progressive Mesh

Expected Release Date is New Years Day.

Should be a pretty good benchmark for most systems here. Might also take some time to make some new skins for other planets, add particles, and add moons.

Yeah, sorry guys. I've been extremely busy with school and that has to take priority.

Here's the beta as it was first pictured for your pleasure.

wow that was pwetty. Nice job Quite proud of my graphics card too (9700pro) it handled it well, even when I kept upping the polys and having all the effects on it still kept about 60fps Of course in low poly and with everything off I got 300+ lol Anyway, looked beautiful

Wow! Over 100 000 polys + normal and shadow, and still more than 300 fps! And with "only" 1000 polys, 1100 fps+!
And the globe looks awesome too!

What are your system specs?

Chances are your video card doesn't support the shaders. Next version I build I'll make sure I set the default settings to the highest allowed by your video card so it won't crash right away.

Well, my best guess is that your integrated gfx card doesn't like the shadow shading or normal mapping.

Try running this code and tell me what values you get.

I love civ 4, and its main menu music. I have to say, this looks pretty close to it. Maybe use blue marble nasa maps, and it will be extremely close
