Just wanted to say I got FEAR this xmas and I think it's a quality game, so I recommend it. I asked peeps on this board a while a go whether it was worth picking up, and got some mixed responses, but mainly positive.

My opinion is basically, slightly creepy at times, but not really very "horror". Quite a lame, repetitive story. Not complete rubbish, but no real depth to it. It doesnt disguise the fact that you're basically just shooting bad guys. But the shooting of the bad guys is awesome. Really quality effects, with lots of bullet damage, sparks, smoke and debris, shrapnel etc. The AI is decent enough to be reasonably challenging, and can take you by surprise and be unpredictable. Definitely a good game.

I made a 20MB WMV of a few bits and pieces while I had fraps running. Worth taking a look at it if you're trying to decide on whether to buy the game or not. I wasn't too far through it at this stage, and as you might expect, during the best firefights, I didnt have time to hit record, but it might help you make up your mind.

Fear Movie (Zipped to avoid steaming - WMV 20MB)

I recommend it for anyone into FPS games, who is all about the combat.

haha. But it has no sheet your ponts factor! I think doom caused a bit of loosening for the first half hour or so, but Fear doesn't. It might be because in Doom the zombies chew you up, where as in Fear the apparitions just try and scare you, and you can happily just run around and let them do their spooky stuff without you ...... apart from that cheeky bitch who tried to burn me up and I ended up flying through a window as the building exploded. Damn her. Damn her creepy self.

Nice vid. Forget awsome particles, physics and bump-mapping: Every game needs a bloody fantastic ladder-climbing system.

haha. You may mock young whippersnapper, but I know at least one person who thought the ladder climbing WAS the more impressive part of the game. hehe.

That's a nice atmospheric looking game I like fps games where you are a proper character not just a floating gun, ie you can see the shadow you cast, can see your amrms and legs whilst climbing etc. Its something I definitely want to add to Quikyl once te character system is finalised

i hated the laddre in the demo, cause u turn around to go down it and BAM! scary girl is right there infront of you, damn good shock effect, then when u get to teh bottom u turn around and BAM there is Fetel! im like holy crap and was firing as he pulled the gun up, whioch looked awesome cause it wasnt just gun is up fire, it was fire as you fumble to bring the gun up. nice effect. I am going to marry the ladder in this game,

Fallout, I agree with what you said earlier; I have no idea why people said that F.E.A.R is scary. It has an atmosphere, yes, but no scares that actually *scare* you. Apart from that one relatively early in the game in Armachan ***OMFG SPOILER!!!!!11one***

Did anyone else think the demo level was changed considerably in the final release? I remember thinking the level in the demo was awesome but when I played through it in the final version, I was a little disappointed that it wasn't as action-packed as the demo.

Spoilertastic. My new favourite scare moment in FEAR captured on film!! BLAIRWITCH STYLE!!! .. well, not quite. It's totally subjective if this creaps you out or not, but you have to bear in mind that at this point in the game, there's been about 1 hour of plunging into darkness, climbing up through lift shafts and struggling through air vents. You feel kinda claustrophobic and a bit drained and in need of bright lights. You also feel like something has been following you for some time.

Yeah. Reminds me a lot of the ring I think. Children are the most horrific of all horror icons.
