Newcomers DBPro Corner / program error?

I downloaded the demo, and when I try to run a program, even a simple print program, I get the error 'system error could not create surfaces, failed to create a d3d device from backbuffer' or something like that.

I tested my video card in the directx panel, and it worked, can anyone offer any help?

maybe you installed it wrong or deleted a file. Does the
print "hello world"
