as a Newcomer i was glad to find the "...Newcomer FAQ's/Helpful Hints" announcement above. the problem is that it dates back to 2003 and many of the links are now dead or lead to something off topic. any chance a Moderator can update this, or atleast remove the dead/useless information? the time this takes will save nearly every future (and current) Newcomer a lot of frustration as we begin our quest for knowledge. in addition, a FAQ that's kept relatively current should reduce some redundant questions/discussions, making the generous help offered by others here more efficient.
