Seriously, who has it? I love the new religious factor, and always try and discover all the religions first. This gives me an advantage by the time of Free Religion. I play as bismark a lot, and sadly cant get above noble without dying a horrible quick death. My strategy is Culture -> Cities -> Research -> Peace/Alliance -> Military -> Expansion

Basically that means I will build cultural buildings first, then start settling, then spend tons on research, then assure peace and alliances, then build huge forces, and hord enemies that wouldnt join me in a defense pact. Simple, but works.

Anyone else have stories to share? Or strategies?

I love Civ, but if I bought Civ 4 I wouldn't have time to eat or sleep, let alone work or look after my children

I usually start my first city, poke the memory location that holds the shields produced and freeze it at 9999. Bam! instant money for everything. Then I produce a scout, poke the memory location that stores how many moves he's made and freeze it at 0. Bam! now he can reveal the whole map in one turn. Then I expand. Once I get to steam engine I put down railroads everywhere, have 50 workers standing by, then I produce about 10 tanks. I then freeze the tanks' hitpoints so they cannot be defeated, and send them out to conqure the world, with my team of workers trailing behind building railroads to my newly conqured lands.

Sometimes I play without cheating too.... but mostly I cheat.

I just finished playing a game.. I was a dictator with free market and free religion . I loved Civ 3. Didnt sleep for ages those weekends.. civ 2 was wonderful, but it just didnt have that spark. I hate the world builder. I want a CIV 3 style one. This one is a cheap built in crappy editor..

I prefer Civ4 over Civ3 although its very very buggy. I've been trying to play a Civ4 game on Epic timescale with a huge world and it crashes about every 10 turns with an "out of video card memory" error. Given the specs of my machine, and the fact that I've turned all the GFX settings down to their minimum, that shouldn't be happening. Theres some kind of large memory leak in the game somewhere.

Its a shame.

I never liked the Civ games, played one of the old ones ages before and avoided it since. But the high scores and reviews always made feel like I was missing something. Anyway I've been playing civ 4 and I have to say it's great. I'm really enjoying it but my laptop can't handle it when it get's busy, it keeps crashing.

I tend to research into the building stuff, I'm not sure how religion effects stuff yet so I leave it on the long finger when researching and building.

Civ4 gets a bit sluggish on my system, especially on a huge map in marathon (if you don't know what I mean by marathon, get the update patch), great series of games, we've actually got all 4 of the main games!

Don't look at me like that!

I updated it 3 hr after each patch came out, and it is nice. This last patch has done great amounts to the game. Also, if you have 2gb ram, do huge. If you have 1gb ram, do large, the rest can be handled on 512. That is a user recommended temp patch. Until they fix it.. but other than that, this series amazes me . I want the turns to slow down. dont jump from 4000 to 3600 for christ sakes! (speaking of which, I found out he isnt a great leader)

I seem to have found a nice strategy. Start on huge, continents, 10 players. You have a 10% chance of starting on another continent, and it is fun! You have all of your own resources, and eventually I came in contact with them, and I was almost 1 age ahead ON DIETY(quick, but still). It was amazing. Holiday gift shot...
