I have now gotten my site up, valid, and very pretty in my opinion. Of course being that I made this post, some C&C would be nice. I also wonder if anyone could do any modeling tutorials(I'm making some for Wings 3D myself, but for other apps, I'd need help), but none are expected. I am still working on the content, I just wanted it to be layed out and valid before I released it to the "public". Well, here it is:

That name entry thing bugs me out. If I want you to have my info, I would register at your site. I'd prefer not to be forced to give any info at all.

Why make sense when you could make brownies?

You don't have to give any info, just press enter when the box appears.

There isn't really much to comment on apart from the 3 links, and I don't need them.

There would be mucho appreciation if someone using a mac with the aqua theme could contact me. Have lost HD icon.

I'm still extensively working on updating the content. The content wasn't what I was displaying here. Before I get really going on content(which I will here soon) I want to have the layout and such finished up.

It's 8AM for me right now and I'm not a morning person...what would you mean by banner, and what bg color would be better? (I hate colors, can't see them right, so it's sometimes difficult to make them look good on my sites)

On my screen it is just a grey mass with some yellow buttons at the bottom. I do have my contrast turned down, but I should still be able to read something.

All it does is stores a JS variable...and I have no way of seeing what you enter in. I may remove the script anyway though.

[edit]Fixed colors, I think it turned out nicely.

better color scheme... Brown isn't my favourite color though.

I'd also lose that javascript thing. Its a nice idea - but its more annoying that websites that have a welcome page consisting of a "click here to enter" button. Its just one extra click to get to your site. I also dont know how that would effect the GoogleBot.

Hmm, just about readable, but I have to highlight it with the mouse to read it properly. Can you increase the difference in colour between the background and text?

I don't like the name entry thing - to me it feels like a: a popup and B: a "introduction" screen before I can view the website, and those are 2 pet hates with sites for me

The only other thing i'd change is the links getting bigger when you move your mouse over them - it changes the whole layout of tables when it happens, so it looks ugly imo - a colour change or underline on mouseover is fine, but bold, italic or sizing lareger on mouseover isn't because it changes the formatting of tables and text, therefore looking messy.

Sorry to sound negative, but you asked for c&c. I like the fact its all validated though, you've actually spurred me on to make my sites fit the,

I honestly thought I'd deleted the script already...one sec...

[edit]script gone, site now a bit more convenient.

The background and text are completely different colors from what I see. The text is a dark blueish, and the background looks tan to me.

The mouse over thing wouldnt look so messy if I had done it right. I need to figure out how I did it before so that it only changes the look of the box around the link you're mousing over changes size when moused over. I believe I did it without tables before and just made borders around any <a> tags within the #navbar <div>

[edit(again)] oh yeah, anyone know the sys req's for blender and ppmodeler, I looked and couldnt find them.

[edit] OK, now I'm wondering, in my CSS script, I set #footer to bottom: 0px; and it won't stay below the rest of the content if it runs past the point that you see the footer at now. I have asked this before and will go back to my old thread to see what was said, but how could I get it to stay at the absolute bottom of the page, but just below the content(if you know what I mean). Thanks for all the help with the colors, layout, and the crits, it's all stuff I need to know.

And whenever I change the CSS it doesnt change automatically...(I can't change the CSS and right afterwards refresh my site and see my changes)

you need to position it absolute if you want to put it always at the bottom. There is a known difficulty with always positioning a DIV at the bottom of something in that way though...

To get it to lay out like it is, #navbar and #content had to be absolute positioned so they could be on the same "row". #footer is also positioned absolute or it falls under header. Should I change navbar from being absolute but keep content? hmm...**runs off to try it**

Comments:
1) Colours still not nice (brown?? WHY?) Also, menu links are too similar in hue to the background (ie too close in color). If you have trouble working in RGB, try researching into HSV (or HSB) colour. Its a more human-friendly way of working with colour. Hue is like the colour "angle" around a circle of varying rainbow colours. Saturation is "how much" colour there is. Value/Brightness is how.. well.. bright the colour is.
2) Change the menu so it doesn't change the font size. Although mouseover's are good - that doesn't work well as the menu changes shape when you do it. Looks amatuer. There are 2 generally accepted ways. (a) Change the color (b) change the 'decoration' (ie, underline).
3) The nav menu is too wide. Imho, it looks a little "alone" being so small in such a large column. I dont know if this is resolution based or not, but I'm running 1280x1024 which an increasing amount of people will soon start doing as 17" TFT's become popular. 17" TFT's run at their best in top resolution (1280x1024 most of the time).

Fixed mouseover for Navbar, and I already had fixed it, just forgot to upload updated file. And in my screen the navbar is only as wide as the text.

What would be a pleasant color scheme?
Text-Blue
Links-?
Headers-?
Background-?

If I knew what to do for the last 3 it would be very helpful.

Just remove the background image and dont make things light up when you hover (unless its a link maybe).

That just confirmed to everyone in my office that I'm wierd as I am now laughing at a computer screen on my own...

Seriously - I find the best way to make a nice looking site is to look at it yourself and pretend someone else made it. Ask yourself if you would actually like to go to that page. If you googled something and ended up there - would you think "Wow - what a well made page!".

Once I get my own computer, and have it set up the way I want(basically once it's connected to the internet) I will have an easier time maintaining and prettying up my website. I just don't have the access that I'd need to put real time into it.

gah - what have you done with the mouseover's on all the text to make it change colour?! Lol...

Seriously - does that kind of thing make you feel like its a good site? If you came to my site and I had that kind of effect, would it:
a) Annoy the hell out of you
b) Make you give me all your money due to being so impressed

It doesn't matter who's machine you use hehe...

I think you're right - you're trying far too hard.

Think simple. Why do you think Google works?

You've never answered my question - if you turned up at your site from google, would you be impressed?

no I wouldn't, but I'm not looking for impressive so much as just pleasant enough to look at for the time being. And I can't work with colors very well as I've said, but I talked to my art teacher, and she said that a green or yellow or other light color would go well with the text I have. Whatcha think about that?

And I'll also work on making some images to make navbar, header, and such prettier after I get my computer as it will have Adobe Photoshop, and other fun things to play with. I would have programs such as these to play with now, but I don't like the computer I'm on, or it's 9G hard drive...(5.4g available space)
