my paypal account was frozen.....when i asked them why, well to cut a long story short, its been 4 months now and still no real reason........they sent me an email claiming a dispute had been started, so i caontacted the person they claimed opened the dispute, he said no way, he hadnt opened a dispute,he contacted paypal and sent me the reply they sent him, that they didnt have any record of him opening any dispute.......this morning paypal sent me an email giving me a number which would show me the dispute, i logged onto my account and pasted the number ( pasted) in the box, paypal has no dispute records that match that number.

after looking on the net i notice im not the only one with this problem, paypal have frozen accounts for no reason ( though some may not be as genuine as they claim theirs too many to call them all liars.)
i have money in the account, if their was a dispute then why not just freeze the amount in dispute ( theirs more than enough to cover any dispute).
any way, im warning people with paypal accounts.....dont leave money in them...transfer it to your bank, but then again its still not safe as paypal can call money out of your bank or credit card...luckily my old card expired and im not putting in my new one and ive canceled all paypal transactions through the bank.

[edit] in order so that TGC and quikly don't become victims of a ill fitting lawsuit, I'll say all the following is prefixed with "alledgedly"

Paypal are thieves simple as that.

I had an account a while ago, I sold 100ish items. Out of those 100 for some reason I fail to understand they refunded 20 of them. All 20 items arrived, were exactly as described and the people were happy with them. I sent paypal proof of postage along with the exac details of what was sent, where it was sent etc. I now "owe" them 200 pounds and they won't tell me why. I tried openning another account to use instead, and that stayed open for a few days and I made a few sales. Then they locked it before I could cash the money, kept the money and didn'ty even take it off the 200 pounds I "owed" them. Quite simply, that -200 and the money in the otyer account has been stolen from me. I will never use them again.

When people want to buy Quikly I recomend they use other payment methods such as Cash Cheque Postal Order or Shareit. If they want to pay with paypal they pay it to a friend of mine's account who luckily hasn't seemed to run into problems with them - but I'm sure he will sooner or later, my confidence in them is completely shot and I have written them to tell them so, and threaten taking them to court if they ever try and claim the money I "owe" them. Bl**dy ridiculous.

The problem is they take too much money - and its not really any quicker than being send a cheque, paying it in and waiting for it to clear...

Not terribly helpful either.

hmm, interesting. I was thinking of using paypal to setup shop in a few months when I have a few applications ready for market, i'm now seriously doubting I will after hearing the comments made here.

So, what would anyone else recommend for setting up a net shop? I liked paypal because it allowed me to write my own shopping page and basically plug it into paypal which handled the money transactions, also allowing people to use whatever form of payment they chose. I hear yahoo offer a good service, anyone had experiance with it?

It depends what you want to sell.

Paypal are very good, until anybody asks for a refund, or there's a blip in the system and it thinks they have. Often you can sell an item, it gets delivered absolutely fine, and the person still asks for a refund. Its given to them, regardless of whether they return the item - you could potentially loose thousands if someone is unscrupulous enough to keep the tiem and ask for a refund

For online software paymnets I've herd a lot of good about shareit, but their signup product process seems very slow to me I've been waiting for ages - perhaps becasue my website is not 100% finished though so I won't blame them for that yet.

I have heard good things about World pay and naochex, but I believe there is s signup charge for both of them

Of course, you could alwasy just use shopping cart software and pay your bank or a merchant company to actually allow you to process credit cards yourself, the initial cost of that is high but you pay less on fees in the long run.
