You're not understanding--- there are no other MMOGs that I know of that support currency conversion to real-life dollars. And I said *over* $1000US --- I never said that's the max.

There are a few examples of land barons earning over $100,000US a year playing SL, so yes, I would say that it has the potential to pay well.

Actually... Project Entropia does too (sci-fi MMORPG). You can convert in game cash to real world cash. Has done for years. Tried it briefly, but your average player can't make money - instead they'll average having to spend about $10 a month to buy in game items (ammo etc). Sound familiar?

Just remember with Second Life, the money pretty much has to come from somewhere. (Except things like referals, I suppose.) How many of the players are actually putting more money in (instead of making money).

So true. They give you a weekly allowance as well depending on the amount of land you have--- I believe I get L$500, which isn't a lot. But I just like SL as you really have to put some work into making money (just like real life). And if I don't make anything of it, I'm only paying $9.95 a month, which is a lot cheaper than what I spend on coffee over just a few days

Just wanted to show an alternative to MMOGs where you have no choice but to pay $15-20 a month, and there's no way to at least counter *some* of that cost

Well the game gives you an inventory where you can place a seemingly limitless amount of stuff, so there is no need for a stash place.

In case anyone wants to see what I look like in-game and what my flat looks like from the living room, here is a snapshot.

I don't look like that in real life (I'm white), but I had a real hard time making my avatar look like myself, so I just went off-course :-P

Check out the TV, which plays real movies streamed from the net, and the radio in the other corner which plays Shoutcast streams. Notice the bling watch?

The outside of my place is modelled after Japanese bungalows--- it's very nice and when I touch the windows from the inside they can switch between a nice picture landscape to fully transparent.

It's my home away from home

I'll give you the landmark to my place, so when you log in next time make sure you accept the item that I give you. Then click Teleport on my landmark.

Landmarks are just like bookmarks--- they're locations that you can teleport to.

I found a cool place a while back, so I'll send you that landmark. It is a building with step by step instructions on how to build all of the objects.

And after playing awhile, I have a great idea, unfortunatly, it costs about L$1500 - 5000, but that's only about US$20. I may even get a premium.

EDIT: Read that you and your neibor wanted to buy another piece o' land and go into buisness, maybe I can get a large boat, and you get the land, we can do some sorta ferry service.

Can you IM me the details and what you need for L$5000? Maybe we can work something out.

About the ferry service, it sounds like a cool idea for novelty, but unfortunately the in-game teleport system would make it obsolete :-(

Since I got my new job, my wife "allowed" me to spend $50 a month on games, so I may sink some or all of it into the land tier system here. Wonder how much land I could get for $50 a month--- probably quite a lot

Stick a casino in there, rent out some space to other shops, offer something new and unique--- maybe make some money back?

Hey everyone, thought I'd let you other SLers that I purchased another 1536m2 of land, which brings my total up to 2048.

I got a pretty good deal, directly beside a public sandbox with a high traffic count. A few of my friends and myself will be setting up shop selling scripts and games, so if you'd like to drop me a message I'll drop you the landmark.

On my tier system I can still buy another 512m2 without paying more monthly dues, so I'm going to buy up a ton of small sections (10x10, 16x16, etc.) and stick massive ads on there to get people to visit our stores

Check out what I found! It's a real-life re-creation of Donkey Kong! So cool!

Alas, it's just too slow for me to bear. I realise it's streaming in all the information around me, textures and all, and I know that would have to take a bit of time. But my connection isn't shabby (the one at work certainly isn't) and the slowness is just too much for me.

Usually, a bit of framing out doesn't phase me, but... well...

I like the object creating though, and I'm sure if I gave it more time I could make some pretty good scripts. (My first script was a cube that you clicked to get a random number between 1 and 6.) It's just the pain of moving around in spurts and jumps, isn't worth the payoff of object making. Especially when that's essentially what I do a) at work, b) in DarkBasic at home.

That's sad to hear I wonder why it's like that for you? It's certainly not a graphic-intensive game, and there are people playing from around the globe.

I know that I maxed everything out in the graphics tab when I first started, and everything was choppy. After I leveled the settings out it's super smooth now.

It's Ok, but i think the scripting system is just too limited. And the only way to make vehicles is using the build in system which hurts in places i didn't know i had.

Although i do rather like my home-made kirby outfit.

Search for Miester Polonsky. This post reminded me to go on tonight.

And i don't like the way linden ****ed over the L$ Sellers.

Well I bought a tux today and myself and the co-owner of the club are decked out in style. She parks her Lambourghini in the driveway and her jet on the roof!

Wow those Donkey Kong Shelves are a great idea - I could build those in real life and sell them! Not sure the big N would like it, although they still owe me royalty checks for inventing the gameboy
