Hi

Checked my local computer store and the prices are TWICE more expensive then on Newegg.com

Heard that was reputable site. Any one here order anything from there? I am thinking of buying 1GB RAM and a video-card under $150. How is their return policy?

I know I can find all this on their site/and or Google, but wanted customer feedback from live people. Am very paranoid about online ordering.

Thanks

In my opinion, Newegg is the best when it comes to buying computer parts. They have practically EVERYTHING, prices (including shipping) are fair, and you can always return a product within 30 days of purchase.

Newegg is T3H BEST for buying computer stuff. There've been times when I've ordered something Monday morning, and it's in my computer Tuesday afternoon. I've never had anything defective from them, but other people I know have, and their return policy is good...no problems about returns.

Hi

I found this on Newegg

Quote: "SAPPHIRE 100125 Radeon X800GT 128MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - OEM

$139.00"

How do these "SAPPHIRE" cards differ from the normal Radeon cards? And is that deal even any good?

Thanks, hoping to order sometime today.

Check your computer places site. (where you got your computer from), and then find your model, then most of them will say how many agp, or pci-e are open, or there.

Open up your case, and look at the motherboard. If you see one of these:

You have a PCI-express slot. However, only the last one (x16) is the standard for new video cards, so make sure you have that one. Also, don't confuse one of the PCI slots with the PCI-Express slot (the black one in the picture):

Motherboards have a list of compatible processors, just look em up in the manual. If you don't have a manual you'll need to get someone who knows what they are doing to open up your computer and read the motherboard identification. Its usually something like MSI 9100FT ver2.0.

Then look em up on google or the manufacturers website.

newegg's return polocy is awesome, I recieved a crap Mobo, they replaced it, no questions asked

if it's somewhat old, it most likely won't.
if it has AGP onboard, it usually won't.

OK that's probably too far then, but what I did was get a P.O. Box from Washington as it was just 5 minutes from my last place. Then I could order anything the Americans can, at their prices, and drive it (or walk it) back across.

BTW magazines are soooo much cheaper this way Maybe it's worth it to get the cheap computer prices?

Surprised in Toronto you can't find cheap computer prices. There are dozens of places here where they sell the cheapest priced decent quality computer parts. Chinatown comes to mind

A word of advice - don't buy off ebuyer.co.uk!
I brought an external cd drive which was completely broken (I mean like it had been dropped - the sides were bent in etc.) Someone came round several weeks after filling in a returns application and a while later I got a refund - but not the full amount. They didn't pay me back the P+P I paid (Which was about £6.00!) took me ages to get through to them and eventually after calling up and being put on hold for nearly half an hour on an expensive phone number they gave me a full refund.

amazon.co.uk I on the other hand highly recommended - ordered a mouse on monday at midday, and got the free, 'slow' postage - it arrived on wednesday morning!

Avoid www.savastore.com like the plague. It is the WORST computer supplier I've ever had the mis-fortune to discover. Bought a video card from them a while back which didn't work at all, took the idiots 3 months for them to tell me that its broke and a month after that to send a replacement.

They have no technical support other than email too, meaning it can take up to 2-3 weeks just to get the idiots to consider getting it replaced.

I can recommend http://www.aria.co.uk/, they haven't failed me yet and the prices are fairly good.

@Megaton - We have a great place here called http://www.atic.ca where the prices are dirt cheap. Wouldn't be surprised if you visit the Chinese-centric areas in Toronto you'll find some great deals

Either that or Future Shop. They have cheap computers but they're all brand name (which suck).
