Hello everyone! I have been working hard for a long time at learning DBP. I have gone through many tutorials on programming with DarkBasic Pro, and I have finally started a good game. I have been working on making my own editor for the game, and I have come up with amazing results. I can texture well, but I am not good with modeling, so I have been borrowing models from FPSC, DarkMatter 1, and various other places.

Okay, so the story is like this:

You are part of the ISA (International Security Administration) during the rebellion of 2039. You are sent out with your squadren to investigate an uprising of supposedly undead creatures in the midwestern USA. During this time, the professor is constanty communicating with you, and the both of you soon find out about a strange portal that seems to be being built in an abandoned western city. You soon find out about a project being built in this barren lands that will soon give transportation around the galaxy, but in the process it would destroy the world! During the game you are sent into a mix of futuristic and old-style fighting to solve who is behind all of this and to shut down their base.

Here is a screenshot. I had to use a weapon from FPSC since I have no modeling knowledge, but I created the world myself:

Well, I hope you enjoy it! Here is the progress so far on the game:

I told you! Texturing and programming is all that I have. Otherwise, I am stuck. I have to find a composer and modeler to help out with the other things. Thanks for the comments guys.

Hello again! Thanks DB MAD. I just updated my signature, so now it is different. I am thinking of releasing a demo in February. I cannot really give an exact date, but I think that would be a reasonable time to show off the game. New screen of the war in progress in a sec!

Hah! Updated my sig now!

I have the main forums up for the site. There is a downloads section, main news portal, calendar, user rankings, PM system, and soon to come arcade. You can discuss some of your main concerns about Dawn of the War there, but please keep this topic active to keep publicity.

Nice work on the levels! I think you need someone to model some guns for you, because I'm not really a fan of FPSC guns.

I am putting together a video as we speak. I will not send an exe out until the game is complete. Thank you very much for being supportive of the game. I am looking for a modeler right now for the guns. I am not the best with modeling, but I can texture and program.

Thanks again. I will start some work on the guns, but in the mean time I am working on some of the character models. I have about 30 main models that I am creating. Nobody so far has signed up on the site. I will be putting the main site up soon. Screens of the in-game battles coming soon!

Thank you very much. Besides changing the guns, does anybody have any critiques on the level work and the overall feel of the game? I am going to base the game on scifi and older placed settings.

Well, there are only a few western-style levels. The person ends up stranded in the abandoned city in the game, and he ends up getting some old western style guns.

maybe he is a timecop, sent through different points in time to stop certain criminal time travellers, as not to disrupt history he must use weapons specific to each time period so that no one suspects him...

Well it deffinetly looks pretty. I guess that's the first step to gathering an audience.

In addition to what Wigget said, you could also let the play have the freedom of using other weapons from outside that time period, but there will be many more people afraid of you and more that will try and fight you. Shop keepers wont sell to you either. So it's kind of a pick the good or the bad way.

Thank you all very much for your suggestions. That is a good suggestion antidote, and I am thinking of implementing a tactical thing like that where you cannot kill too many people or else you can die or go into "chaos" mode when you return to your time period.

THE GRAPHICS!

they are photo realistic! If i didn't no anything about computer games i'd say that was a real photo! They are absolutely fantastic. The grahics are even better then Xbox 360 in my opinion! Excellent models, superb grahics and it will be probably the best game made in Dark Basic Pro. A truly commendable effort i mean, look at that tree! keep up the good work. Move aside Half life 2.

(only one problem, whats the frame rate?)

I am glad that you think of it that way so far. It is an amazing accomplishment that I have made in my mind, and I have already given myself a pat on the back for it ! So, I am getting around at the worst times about 40 frames, and at the best times around 60 to 70. What I am doing is deleting certain objects when they are not in the sight of the player but keeping the data and then restoring it when he sees it to increase frame rates. It is a little buggy because sometimes some of the objects do not show up, but I am working on fixing that.

I for one would like to make some gun models for your game. If you need some models just reply to this message with the gun name, any materials on the gun (such as shiny with wooden grip or black all over) and the object format that you would like me to save them as. I am using Caligari Gamespace so it would be best for me if i save them as .X so if you would like a model i'll have it completed within 3 days. (I am currently working on a 44.magnum.

If I'm right you don't need to worry about this... Since DarkBasic Pro hides objects not shown on the screen itself.

This project looks good!

Hmm, content steal much?

vs. a screenshot from a half-life mod:

Notice the shutters and roof of the building on the left. This is an updated version of the map, however.

An older version of the map showing the same scene (textures and all) that he posted but from a different angle.
