Some of you will have noticed that Quikly.com has dissapeared into thin air, I'm most panicked about this and quite annoyed, its paid hosting and I haven't recieved any communication as to whats going on. My email addresses with the quikly.com ending are also down

All current customers will recieve an email from my googlemail account (thanks to dbmad!) with details on temporary download links to use, I'll try and get them up on some free space asap.

I've got no idea whats going on I've phoned and left a message with my hosting providers so hopefully the site will be back up asap. Thanks for your pateince guys

Hmm ok its back up now, I've got the domain going to a temporary backup on a different server. Still no word from the host as to what happenned or why, it seems it was down a good few hours though...

[edit] Nick - yeah oi'd consider it if it happens a lot or for a long time - the reason I paid for hosting in the first place was because I was fed up with free hosting going down

possibly. I was going to be published through a big publisher a while ago, I think I emailled you about it as I was using some of your plugins at the time, that would have ensured distribution in majopr chains. That fell through in the end, basically as I felt a re-write was needed to keep it up to date, use the latest technologies, dx9, shaders, physics etc. Now I'm doing it off my own back, basically to keep it as much under my control as I can. I'll certainly look into ditribution channels etc again soon, at least getting a barcode so people can order it into shops

PS about your plugins - is your RAR plugin still available and will it work in 5.9? That would be useful to me, I notice most of your plugins aren't on your website anymore?

The source code for the RAR plug-in (and others) is still availiable - in the old plug-ins section. It should still work with 5.9, and the latest URAR.DLL

Kang -- You need to switch hosts if they don't reply to your communications. At least one with the option of live support chat

Thanks

I'm back to normal now. They reply to emails quite quickly and give a phone number, but the phone always goes to an answering machine The only reason I use this host is because they were cheap and took payapl, and I had some spare credit with pp at the time. If they prove to be unreliable in the future I'll set up a mirror account and maybe swap the domain

Thanks man I'll stick with what I've got for now being that I've just got it all working again, but if it turns out to be unreliable in the long run I'll certainly contact you

Pain in the a** as the stress and late nights caused by all this means I now have a stupid eye infection on top of everything. EA users PLEASE be patient with me I'll get this sorted - gotta make it all perfect for "official" launch in February

[edit] Ok now the sites back up (it was down about half an hour) but my smtp isn't responding wtf - is this normal for hosting to randomly do??

@DBMad - Don't you own or run gameserveruk? Please stop spamming it on all the threads.

I've tried over half a dozen hosting companies since '98, and I would trust http://www.lunarpages.com over all of them thus far. It's reasonably priced and there's always a live person on the other end of the phone when you need help
