Weird story, so I get an email in one of my 2 hotmail accounts (one for MSN and garbage, and another for school and more "professional" stuff ) with the news updates to all the Windows Live everything they have going on, and their online security thing was interesting, so I subscribed to the Office LIVE Beta newsletter using my OTHER hotmail account. and in there was this message, along with a hundred other messages from MS (thank you for registering Visual studio...):

From : Windows Live Messenger Team <msnbetax@microsoft.com>
Sent : Thursday, January 5, 2006 2:44 PM

Subject : Join the Windows Live Messenger Beta

Hello!

We'd like you to be among the first to try a new beta version of Messenger.

If you use MSNĀ® Messenger now, we think you're really going to enjoy Windows LiveTM Messenger. It's as fun and reliable as the Messenger you already know, and you won't lose your contact list or any other personal information when you try this new version.

blah blah blah

so I thought "cool, they're letting people use the new beta.

so I install and try to log in using my joelthebod@hotmail.com account, all to no avail, says that account can't login. so I tried the account they emailed that too, and BAM , it works! odd.

So i tried to find a link that i might've clicked to let me try this out. so I googled it, and everyone else has to use HACKS and stuff to log into the new version of MSN.

so now i'm too the point where I think i was "randomly" selected to use the new version of MSN. Why would they choose me? and why THAT account? is it because i've registered so many Visual Studio 2005 thingies?

anywho, MSN8 rocks, they've done some cool stuff with file sharing, shame no one else uses it

Yeah, i've been using it for awhile now myself aswell.. You'll have to send an invite and sign up for each account you want to be able to log into messenger with.. I've already sent out about 10 invites to friends.

Yup, I use it too. Have to say the new UI they got going is hidious though, plus the contacts list is way to small compared to the size of the form - I have to maximize the window just to see who's online and I always liked having it run in a small window to the side.

The other new features are good though.

[Edit] Sent you an invite Darkbasic MAD.

I dont like how it no longer tells you the email of the person when you roll the mouse over their msn screen names.

6.2 was my favorite, and it worked with my webcam.. ever since the 7.0+ series came out my webcam chugs the whole computer almost to a stop before the webcam shuts itself down.. really weird..

I think they changed drivers though and that's why, but i'm not completely sure.. I think instead of using the native drivers to the webcam, tney're using some sort of direct x input.. Can anyone confirm this? If not, i'll still go with that assumption, heh.

This sounds suspiciously like they stole Gmail's advertising tactic. I guess it's no surprise though, it did work a charm.

Thanks for the invite.

I have to say I'm disgusted with msnm 8 though.

Never mind the default puke-on-plaster color scheme or the annoying mouse-over setting I disabled; what really pisses me off is that the window now has to be two times larger to display all my online contacts right now without scrolling. The ugly, bigass windows live logo and bizarrely large video/ad panel at the bottom are real space hogs. Which will be removed in due time as soon as the next messpatch comes out, but still, that pisses me off.

The new windows are just too BIG, as well. The plush windows XP style was one thing, but this is like they're trying to simulate multiple layers of plastic stacked on top of one another. The colors also clash horribly - looking at a conversation window, there's the silver of the window background, and then the wallpaper, and then the ligher colors and whites of the windows on top of the wallpaper, and then the off-white information bar if said buddy is away, and then blue AND green buttons and the sorted call/activities/games/backgrounds/whatever buttons that nobody uses and just waste space in the window. It's a f'kin mess is what it is.

I genuinely liked MSN 7 after proper hacking because it combined a nice color scheme with good looks and minimalism rather well, but, as much as I never thought I'd say this, AIM Triton beats the living crap out of MSN 8. Hell, you don't even have to hack it to be able to remove all the tabs and extra buttons and other junk from the windows.

Hello guys,

This new MSN 8 Sounds great rom what I hear of.

However I also have no invite for it, which I find a bt upsetting.

However if possible, if you could spare the few minutes and send me an invite to gameserveruk@tiscali.co.uk I would really apperciate it!
Many Thanks.

Actually, the crack worked, and quite well it did. What it did (from what I understand) was sent you through a proxy and changes your data to make the MSN server think your logging in from a 7.5 version of messenger. Atleast thats what I gathered from it.

The problems with it were the fact that it always had to be running, and that it was expectedly slow, being a proxy crack and all. That and the fact that I don't feel too good having to run through a proxy, not the safest way to do things.
