Mods:
Does any of you think the codebase should be more closely moderated. I think It should be reserved for quality code that is mod picked. Today i saw some bullcrap posted anonymously and it is very difficult to find quality code because of all the noob's posting there. If people have code snippets they belong in the code snippets forum and not the codebase. IMO the codebase is poluted with spinning cube and hello world programs and needs cleaning.

Do you mean Codebase or Code Snippets - the former cant be moderated.

Dont know if you'll find it usefull, but I'm building a catalog of dark basic challenge entries from the stickied challenges thread on the DBP board.
http://www.thingy-ma-jig.co.uk/new/

I'm going to add a feature where registered users can "rate" some of the entries.

I agree that the codebase should be moderated - although I accept it isn't right now. I think that when content is submitted, it should enter a queue and someone should be appointed to go through the queue and only let in entries that serve some purpose, are well commented so people can learn from them and are generally acceptable.

I personally dont use the codebase - I find its too hard to get what you want.

@Stinky Stoat im not sure, i think the clue is maybe the fact that the thread title is claled 'the codebase' he mentions 'the codebase' a few times in his post even 'If people have code snippets they belong in the code snippets forum and not the codebase'

but yea its more of a place to shove any old code snippets rather pointless.

as previously stated I was most definitely reffering to the CODE BASE and not the code snippets forum, where unfortunately the better snippets end up residing.

The code base is moderated! If you click on an entry and then click on the code tab you'll notice toward the bottom of the page is a text box you can fill out to have the code removed for whatever reason.

I always look through and add my stuff to the code snippets forum as it can be moderated and the codebase seems clunky and aggravating.

Unfortunately people tend to see Code Snippets and Code Base as the same thing - Code Snippets is moderated, but Code Base isn't (and cant be, although would be good if it was. You do have a report button). Really, only one is needed, so it would be a good idea to get rid of the Code Base

I never look at the Code Base. It has a better search facility, but it only brings back crap these days. The reporting button arrived after too long a period of rubbish being posted.

Code Snippets is much better because if the code is worthwhile it floats long enough to be noticed and bookmarked.

Mmm, Codebase needs a complete clean out.

Maybe the codebase should just be used as an archive to store really good code from the Code Snippets board?

I agree, either that, or moderate the code base(make the mods check the enteries before adding it)
