Hello all!

Today I went in and bought me an Xbox 360! Yes... I BOUGHT it, but I got home with empty hands! It was sold out all over the place... I called several stores, but no luck. So now I'm sitting here and have to wait until sometime in February before the store I bought it off get it home But I'm looking forward to that moment!

I'm thinking - or actually have decided - that I wanna buy Condemned with it. It looks awsome! Atleast the demo is

Now all my friends got one... And they say that they've never incountered any problems with it... Thought there was one time at a LAN party were it freezed I was there myself. But else they've never got any problems with it.

I would like to hear your opinions about this new system and how your experience with it have been so far...

Now I don't want this discussion to end in any ps3 VS xbox discussion. It would be nice if we could just get a normal discussion about experiences with the xbox 360...(Even if I can't really say anything, YET!).

I've tried it(as said above) to a LAN party and also sometimes when I have been together with my friends... It have been acting nice while we've been playing

While I would like to know thoughts about it... I would also like to know if anyone of you have had lots of problem with it - freezing or something like that.

Cheers,

The Nerd

Indeed... Thought they seemed to switch over to talking about much else other than the xbox. And I wanted to hear comments just about the xbox, and how the users experience have been with it

I've experienced a small few problems with my system, i've had it freeze twice, pretty much it.. Once in a menu of a dvd and once in the menu of halo 2.

Despite that, it's a really great system.. I've purchased Geometry wars(great game), i also purchased Bankshot Billiards, which despite a few things i wish it had(like online trick shot playing), it's also a very decent game.

I also own Condemned, Dead or alive 4, Perfect Dark Zero and i've rented/beaten Call of duty 2.

Condemned is a really great game, and although it can get repetitive, i've never found myself getting lost for too long, and i've never felt the repetiveness too disrupting. Very atmospheric, and quite gruesome.. My friend labeled it as being a game 'Not suitable for humans.'

I also beat Dead or Alive 4, unlocked all of the characters(havent unlocked all of the costumes yet), and i have a couple things to comment on it... It's a fantastic game first of all, second of all.. Having to beat all the characters to unlock one, and then beat the story mode with that character to unlock the spartan makes it seem like the spartan is the god all of the game.. Do not overhype the spartan just because you have to do so much to get her, she's not -that- great.

Perfect dark Zero is good, but it could be better.. I'm personally not a huge fan of the AI, i think they're not all that hard and not all that strategic but perhaps that's just my opinion.

Call of duty was an excellent game, great graphics, somewhat decent AI and great playability.

Hope that helps a little bit!

Well in all truth and honesty, there's only -soo- much you can say about the system itself.. this thread wont be long lasted if you cant talk about the capabilities/games/software yada yada that goes along with it.

I'm surprised that the system never came in a bundle where they included a wireless router/adapter. :p

Oh wait, now that i've said it i'm sure there will be a package eventually heh.

Friend of mine bought one (on his lunchbreak) purely for the retro-style downloadable games.

He says they're all based on robotron - Geometry Wars. Amuses me that he bought this cutting edge system for a downloadable remake of an old game with some spangly graphics

The Xbox 360 is definately worth it, I don't have enough money to get a game, because I still owe my dad for the Xbox 360 itself, but once I get a game it'll probably be a lot better.

@DBMad - Enough with the console vs. console talks. The author stated not to make this a PS3 vs. Xbox (or anything else) talk.

Myself I would love an Xbox 360, but none of my friends have them. Hell, I don't even have friends that like video games (aside from work of course).

I love my XBox 360.

I own Quake 4, Call of Duty 2, Kameo, Project Gotham Racing 3, and Perfect Dark Zero. For the most part they're all awesome games, except maybe the terrible lag issues in COD2.

The controllers are dead sexy, they feel sooo comfortable when playing for a long time... And I would definitely getting some marketplace points with your 360. They're what you use to buy the stuff on the live marketplace, like the arcade games. I spend more time playing Geometry Wars than I do some of the 60 dollar games I have! Definitely worth the 400 bucks it took to get this system.

i remember looking on gamasutra i think it was and seeing an article from the company who m$ drafted in to design the looks of it, and man i'm glad they chose that one, some of them are hideous

[found article]
http://www.gamasutra.com/features/20050712/sheffield_01.shtml

with the exception of the last but one in that pic, they are all ugly

i must say i like the look of the dev kit version, nice and swish, and i hope they will do what they did with the original xbox, which is when they released halo 2 they made a set of limited edition xboxs which were in the dev kit livery, i seriously hope they do it again

as to the graphics of the xbox 360, i must say from what i've seen of them, in shops that is, the graphics is very good - i've played the call of duty demo and the graphics are stunning on it, the people actually have a sense of reality about them, though of course it isn't quite to the level which everyone would like it

[edit]the above picture might not work, as it is from gamasutra and i think you have to be logged in to see it

Pic works fine!

Nerdy, I think you know all my oppinions on the console already.

But still, it's an amazing console. And the controllers have got to be the best ever! When you touch them, they're like glued to your hands(in a comfortable way), and you just want to hold it forever. Sounds like a love story, eh? And the games; I just got CoD2 two last Tuesday(I traded in Condemned again, it was too sick), and basically a great game, with amazing graphics and gameplay. And the SOUND! I got my surround sound system(Creative I-Trigue 5600 5.1) set up the same day, and it was wonderful! I've also played NBA Live 06 and PGR3. Amazing graphics, but not revolutionary speaking of gameplay. And PDZ. A very fun game, but lasted less than a month(it might have something to do with the fact that I got NBA and PGR 22 days after I got the machine and PDZ).

I own 3 arcade games so far. First I got Smash TV and Outpost Kaloki X. Smash TV is one of them Robotron games, and Outpost Kaloki X is more like a theme park game, where you build an ( ) outpost in space, using these ports where you can build one attraction per port. And not so long ago I got Geometry Wars as well, which is the BEST Arcade game available! The graphics actually amazed me, and the gameplay is like Robotron, but here you can actually fire 360 degrees around you, and it's insanely addictive(and hard). And of course I'll get Barbie's Horse Adventure soon, since it's 360 compatible!

i haven't got one, but i have heard that if you put it in it's up position it will decrease the life of the disk drive, and that it can overheat if it is on its side, so keep it cool

also a biggy is don't change the position of it whilst it has a disk in it as we have all seen that video, poor poor disk

i must say i like the idea of the ring of light, the way that when it is on its side it changes the position of the light so it is in its top left corner - the wonders of murcury switches

Also potentially have to make sure you have the power supply in a good location, i hear that some of them overheat aswell and if you put it in a good ventilated spot it wont freeze up your box so easily.

I had my box freeze on me once again the other day while i was playing bankshot billiards.. I would send it in, and even though i hear it's a fairly simple process to do so.. i'm not sure i'm willing to give up my xbox 360 for a couple of weeks :p

It won't overheat if it's on it's side. The Xbox detects what way it's standing(that's also the trick with the ring of light), and then it'll adapt it's cooling system to fit it's position.

And of course you shouldn't move the Box around while there's a disc in the drive, it no wonder it gets scratched

Well, just don't put it in a turned on oven. If you just put the "Power Brick"(it's absolutely huge!) on the floor or on a table or some other 'hard' surface, it'll be okay.

Nope... The disc would go down and touch the surface of the disc drive etc... I think.

I used to say PS3 blows it out of the water... actually I guess I still do, but thats my bias opinion. But the real truth is the two systems are very evently matched (although ps3 does do more computation). It really all comes down to what games you want to play. If you like Halo then PS3 isn't for you. If you like Final Fantasy XBOX 360 isn't for you. Although I did hear a rumor a FF game is going to XBOX. I swear to Jebus, if that rumor is true I will go nuts. How could they betray the PSone FF fans?

Not if they had as much trouble with it as the ps2

Quote: "although ps3 does do more computation"

Not sure about that... Maybe the PS3 got more cores in the processers, but that dosn't mean that it computes more... It has much to do with the quality of the processers And the xbox 360 uses high quality processers, and that's costum IBM processers!

Hehe

I saw a review of Final Fantasy by the xbox team... They said that sometimes you could go online and find an empty world... I'm gonna stick to World Of Warcraft anyway.

But as I said... PLEASE don't let this thread be a PS3 vs Xbox 360 thread... Or a thread about games... Lets stick on-topic.

First of all i'd like to say i'm quite unbiased to either system but i would like to point out some facts. PS3 is going to have some great FPS's coming out for it, so i'm not sure what you're talking about. Project IM for example looks like it's going to be a pretty neat game(even from the fairly small amount of information given about it so far).. The thing is, it's going to be released on both stations.

Quote: "Although I did hear a rumor a FF game is going to XBOX. I swear to Jebus, if that rumor is true I will go nuts. How could they betray the PSone FF fans? "

The big cheese that used to work for Square, that man being Hironobu Sakaguchi the creator of the final fantasy series left Square and created his own studio called Mistwalker Studio's.. That team is already developping 3 projects, one being Blue Dragon(RPG), and another being Lost Odyssey(another rpg).. Expect great things from these two games, the third hasnt been talked about much more than they are working on something.

Microsoft has worked very hard to gain Japanese developper support, and they've done pretty well this time around(it's unfortuneate that they're not doing well with the japanese market), either way, there's going to be a lot more Japanese developped games making their way onto the system.

As The Nerd said, as far as performance goes, they're both pretty equal, they beat eachother in certain departments. But from a development standpoint it sounds like PS3's are a tad harder to develop on than Xbox 360's.

I swear to god, the only thing that's going to make or break this war is online service, hopefully Sony will learn from what Microsoft has done and improve on it.

"How could they betray the PSone FF fans"
The same way they "betrayed" the Nintendo fans who had played the first 6 games on Nintenod machines!!!

Final Fantasy was only on sony machines since 7 and they have no alegance with sony at all, square simply develop the games for the machines they feel will handle the game they want to make best (they didn't release 7 on the n64 as they wanted the cd-rom for fmv, and didn't release on Saturn as by then it was a dying platform.

Don't forget the xbox 360 already has FF11 so there's no reason the new game couldn't come out on ps3 and xbox, and even revolution the systems can technically can handle it. Square are free agents and just release on what platforms they feel will suite their games best.

Just because a game was popular on playstation people assume its a sony property, don't forget that Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, Wipeout, Toshinden, Destruction Derby etc all came out on the Saturn too, and often before the playstation versions. Sony have very few actual properties that "belong" to them, mostly just the Gran Turismo franchise is of note...

Thank you joel for listing some Microsoft routers.. The fact is they want to make as much money as possible, i've seen -tons- of different packages Mold Rat, some including as you said big screen tv's, speaker packages etc.

Besides, what's so weird about doing that? In the premium package they included a dvd remote control for the xbox, and a couple of other things that some people may never use, what's so odd about giving people the option of atleast getting a DISCOUNT on Microsoft hardware that works with the 360 if they -have- a 360?

well, i might as well throw in my 2 cents. I was able to track down a 360 premium the week before christmas and have loved it ever since. I bought three additional wireless controllers for it, and am very happy that my old wireless network adapter that i used for my original xobx, works perfectly with the new xbox. I have Project Gotham 3, Call of Duty 2, Perfect Dark Zero, Madden NFL 2006, and Kameo: Elements of Power.

I have to say that project gotham is my fvorite game out of the bunch, its graphics are in my opinion the best of all the launch games, as long as you race in the in-car view, which the resulting sense of realsm is unparallel to any other game i have played before, especially on my 52" widescreen HDTV with Dolby 5.1.

Call of Duty 2 is an enormously entertaining game, i played throught the single player campaign with a dropped jaw, but i was immediatley dissapointed as started playing online matches, which, i would say 3 out of 4 are so horribly laggy, that i must drop out and re-enter the matchmaking process. But 1 out of every 4 matches are not laggy, and those matches make it well worth the time wasted on the other attempts. Even the the multiplayer is limited to 8, i think it just as fun as playing Halo 2 online.

I am sad to say that i was extremely dissapointed as far as Perfect Dark Zero goes, i am a proud owner of the original Perfect Dark, which was truley a masterpeice, and still is today. It was the king (or queen) of all first person shooters right up until Halo came out. But this sequel felt way more cartoony than it should have, although they picked a graphical style and did it well, the single player campaign seemed short, the story is frankly pitifull, especially when compared to the first game's, the multiplayer, tho fun and extremely customizable, can feel slow at time, and the 32 player matches online are so confusing to play i cant even begin to describe my feeling of hoplessness my first time entering one. This was by no means a bad game, it is very enjoyable, but this game had very big shoes to fill, and i would almost perfer the original.

Madden NFL 2006 is very pretty indeed, it incorporates a lot of the core elements in the ps2 and xbox versions, but it has so much cut out! It is still a fun game, beleieve me, i love playing through a season with my friend, and did i mention that only 2 people can play on one 360? How absurd is that?!!? Maddens voice is nowhere to be found in the game, and frankly, i was dissapointed, i would have expected this version to have mre features, not less.

And i havent played Kameo, my sisters play that, theyve told me it is really fun, but then again, they have loooooow expectations for games, so ill get back once i play it a while.

But overall im guessing i am happy with the 360, tho i wouldnt have minded waiting another year or more so we could have the same leap in hardware as we saaw from the snes-n64 and the n64-xbox. I love the xbox dashboard, tho it has frozen twice on me to date, it is packed full of features. If you had to buy 2 games for the system, i would recomened Call of Duty 2, and Project Gotham 3. Well, thats my 2 cents on the system, hope it helped someone.

Yes I agree entirely tdp

"And Socom/Ratchet and Clank/Jak and Daxter etc."
Yes but nonbe of those are system selling must have games. The only console shifting franchise that sony have got exclusive is Grant Turismo. Socom is good but there are better, and its hardly original, and whilst all naughty dog games (starting with the first Crash Bandicoot on psx) have been very good, they have yet again not been original or different enough to become franchises people buy consoles for. The playstation games I mentionned (tomb raider, wipeout etc) were at the time however. Its just ironic that people bought a playstation specifically to buy those games when they could have played them on a saturn, pc or whatever.
