Several people have asked for a new zombie script. So I made a new one for the Half-Life zombie. He appears face down and dead until you get close, then he gets up and goes after you with his slashing attack.

The good news is, this was done without adding any new animations! I was able to use the animations already included. I just had to modify the FPE file and create a new script. Just replace my old FPE file with this new one and put the new script in your scriptbank folder and set the zombie to use this new script as its "AI Main".

EDIT: ALL THE FILES NEEDED FOR THE HL2 ZOMBIE ARE NOW LOCATED AT MY WEBSITE UNDER 'FREE STUFF' HERE:

Thanks, and all it required was adding a few numbers to the FPE file and a few changes to the script.

Most of the time I use 3ds max's Character Studio. For more simple stuff I use standard max bones.

Hmmm, Im having a problem with this script. What the zombie does is first, when I spawn him laying on the ground, he is like 1.5 feet off of the ground, and then, when I get close, he like doesnt even get up and is like practially swimming. then, whenI try to kill him, he plays the dead ani, then like, bounces on his feet and attacks you like 30 times every .00001 second lol. I really like this script if it would work, and help will be apreacheated.

It's possible you have the old version of the zombie. With the files now buried in 2 forums it can be pretty confusing...

I'll make this really easy and post everything to my website, I'll post back in a few minutes when I have it ready.

Ok, I've added all the files needed to use the zombie to my website. He will now appear as two separate entities in the editor. The regular standing version, and the version that "plays dead".

Go here and look under "free stuff":
http://hyrumark.zftp.com/FPSC/hyrumarkfpsc.htm

You shouldn't need to change any script now...first of all, if you've already downloaded the zombie previously, delete it as well as all .bin and .dbo files that reference it.

Then go to my website and download the new zombie zip file, all the files needed are now in one place on my website here under "free stuff":

http://hyrumark.zftp.com/FPSC/hyrumarkfpsc.htm

Unzip and copy all the files from the "entitybank" folder to your own entitybank folder of choice. I suggest copying them to the "entitybank/user" folder.

Then copy the files in the "scriptbank/people" folder to your own "scriptbank/people" folder.

That's it. You should now have two separate zombie entities in the editor. One that stands and attacks, and one that lays face down until you get very close to it, then gets up and goes after you.

Yeah start over from scratch, I released a few versions of the zombie, with different animations, fpe file, and scripts.

Delete your old one as well as the bin and dbo, and download the new one from the link in my signature.

Don't use ANYTHING you may have downloaded before, delete it.

Everything is in the new zip file. Thumbnail pictures, scripts, fpe, and .x model.

Delete the old model and EVERYTHING else related to it including the dbo and bin files, thumbnail pics, fpe, etc.

Then start over with the NEW zip file here:

hey bond the old chest needs to be retextured because the bottom of the chest you have the same texture applied to it as the front of the box.
and the trashcan needs to be realigned and blended better at the edges. otherwise your models are pretty nice

Silver Draquinsty, are you starting with the new files I posted above?

AGAIN, IF YOU HAVE DOWNLOADED THE ZOMBIE PREVIOUSLY, YOU MUST DELETE ALL OF THE OLD FILES. THIS INCLUDES THE .X FILE, FPE FILE, .BIN AND .DBO, AND THUMBNAILS.

The script will not work correctly with the old version of the zombie.

Everything you need is included here under "free stuff":
http://hyrumark.zftp.com/FPSC/hyrumarkfpsc.htm

There are TWO separate versions, one that starts standing up, and one that starts laying face down. It also helps if you rotate the zombie to face the player in the editor using the "R" key.

IMPORTANT: I didnt' make this zombie. The model and texture are pulled directly from Half-Life 2.

I just animated it to make it suitable for use in FPSC.

I use 3ds max.

You don't wanna know how much 3d max is...about $3500 for the current version. It's one of the standards when it comes to creating game content, I think the majority of the developers for XBox use max...

You should be able to find an earlier version of max online for substantially less though. That's what I did a few years ago, and then upgraded over time.

Expect a steep learning curve if you've never used it before though.

Hey bond1. I've got a couple of zombie models. Unfortunately, ones is kinda textured, and the other none at all. Both not animated. I don't have the time to finish them, so will be giving them away. Free to use, commercial/non commercial. I know you're busy with the up coming model pack. Im working on mine (non tgc). Anyway, wondering if I could get the fig and bip files for your hl2 zombie, or I could just send you th e max files. Either way no worries, you can email me directly if you prefer.

Some screamshots.

Liz: I used 3dsmax.

Anyway. Don't mean to steal the thread. So before it goes anywhere else I'll just wack out a new thread on FPSChat and upload there. Thought it would be nice to package with your script, but I think I'll let someone else go fiddle with the files.

peace

edit: cool no worries bond1 I'll just do as I said above.

I'll probbably get allot of groans, but try Milkshape3d.
You'll either love it or hate it. I learned modeling on it, so I'm could care less that I paid thousands less and produce extremely decent stuff.

I'm certainly not going to scoff at ANY software people choose to use. Learning any 3d modeling program takes a big investment of time and energy. I learned with max and it would be just as hard for me to switch to something else like milkshape even now.

Understood, I hear that a lot. Max useres find MS difficult and vice/versa. I mention MS because the learning curve is very low and there are lots of tuts for it, plus it's the cheapest. I'd probbably be divorced if I paid for max and couldn't learn it,lol.

Yes it will work with the most recent Psionic zombie.

BUT...you have to modify the animation info in the psionic zombie's fpe file. Easiest way to do it is open the Half-Life zombie's fpe, copy the entire animation section, and paste it into the psionic zombie's fpe.

Then the script will work. (just remember to set the script to "AI main")
