Is this year a TGC Competition?

If yes then please dont make some stupid rules like

The game must be based on one of the three game types mentioned (Snake, Scorched Earth, Operation Wolf).

Agreed here I'm afraid - I'd like to see a category I can get my teeth into without having to completely copy something (i.e. retro compos).

I know it's already been done but a snow sports themed was was a very cool idea.

Although I don't know how much TGC might rely on sponsorship - like they did with Alienware and the alien.

I was chatting with jimmy a coupla nights ago, and we agreed that I might try running the second annual cinco de maya compo this year... but only after extracting a blood agreement with Rich of course

I think the rules for the next competition should be a mishmash of old posts from the "Team Requests" board.

Prizes: Not just DBP, cart shop etc. as most people already have them. The alienware sponsored competition a while back was cool because the first prize was a computer. Also having cash prizes like the current caiman.us competition is garanteed to get you entrants

As for competition rules...I think a theme is the best idea. Like if it was running over christmas it could have been 'winter' etc.

There's still plenty of time to enter the Caiman compo at http://www.caiman.us - CASH prizes for top 25 games.

Got until 21st Feb. Any new game or easter related game will get 100% rated but you can still enter an old game and get rated 90% but my bet is that new easter related games will get highest scores.

So games involving cute rabbits, easter eggs, etc should do well.

Then there's the new shmup-dev compo horizontal shooter compo with a few prizes.

Surely that's enough for now!

Hopefully though there will be an official TGC compo this year sometime.

Boo!

Lmao... No, it's Cinco de Maya.

A 2006 compo would be nice. I prefer 3D to 2D, although it is mildly harder to get cool effects and liek stuff.

A lot of DB users are students - it's a good idea not to schedule a competition during exam time ie in June/July (In the UK)

I'd like to see a sport game compo. Very few indies make sports games, but I really dont see why people can't innovate and come up with their own sports. There are so many sports, and so many angles you can take on em. Things from blood thirsty "speedball massacre", to a sedate game of "human-in-a-cue-ball billards".

Well, you're probably right as that's the kind of thing Jimmy would say , but Cinco de maya translated from Spanish -> English on babelfish gets:

Quote: "five of Mayan"

I vote platformers. Sports games require to much knowledge of ai for most and the same often goes for a good fps.

AI would be a limitation. Yes I know it's a competition but sports games CAN involve alot of AI when playing against a computer.

What about a board-game remake?

board games would be a good idea, although sports is probably my favourite. The are a lot of types of games which would fit under sports - from darts, bowling and snooker to racing, football and golf

There's also open genre with the contest based on a theme (i.e. the time based contest a while back, Gamedev's 4 elements, etc)

You guys are afraid of a little challenging A.I.? Just so you know A.I. programmers are usually very well paid in the game industry--- and personally it's not that difficult :-P

I still haven't received any word as the results of the Cinco de Mayo. As I understand, Hawkeye and I were the only ones who entered. But who won??
