I want one!!! Wish I hadn't upgraded my iBook now! Should have put the money into saving and got one of these things...

They do look nice, one of my friends ordered his the second the Keynote speech was over! I'd love to upgrade my G5 to the Core Duo version, but not until Apple release native Intel versions of their Pro range (and Adobe specifically). I know they'll run under Rosetta, but until there are native processor versions I'd not seen any of the speed increase.

I did however get iLife and iWork 06 Very nice indeed.. the new 3D texture mapped, light-sourced graphs in Keynote are sexy, and the new albums in iPhoto are very cool indeed.

I like the thinking behind the magsafe power cord. For those that don't know, the power cord is held in the macbook by a small magnet so if anyone trips over the trailing cord it just pops out instead of pulling your macbook onto the floor.

EDIT:: Anyone wanting to watch the keynote speech (and see Steve Jobs say 'boom' a lot) can click here>>> http://macworld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/mw/index.html

It looks seriously cool, but as Rich said, there needs to be natively compiled exe's before it's worth buying.

I like the iSight built in camera, that is a smart move for a business user on the move. Sitting on the train having a conference

Like I said - ONLY $1999 I love it when companies do that

I simply love that idea of the magnetic power cable! There are so many little things about this iBook I'm using right now that make me think "Why on earth have Sony/Fujitsu/[insert company name here] not thought of this?" Like the charging light being on the power cable, the battery having a built in LED charge tester (would be SO usefull if you had a second battery... or even NEEDED a second battery!)...

One thing I am not so keen on about my iBook is the 1024x768 resolution limit. That 1440x'whatever' screen that MacBook has looks VERY sweet!

I MIGHT look into one of those after my holiday... In theory, 2 months scrimping and saving should do it (thats the one thing I like about living with my parents, the bugger all rent/bills situation - hehe)

Any chance of it dropping in price anytime soon? I don't know much about apples history so don't know how the company is for this kind of thing.

The price won't drop, you'll just see the speeds and features increase. These are Macs we're talking about. You pay a lot for the brand, make no mistake about it. The only difference being that if they fit the style / type of work* that you do then they are awesome machines.

* read: not suitable for hardcore PC gamers, or people who spend longer in Halo / CS than actually doing work. Extremely suitable for all graphics, dtp, creative, photo-taking, video mixing, sound editing, php'y types

Not exactly hardcore gaming there (infact you could debate the 'gaming' part too)

The Mac does get some good games (Doom3, Unreal series, World of Warcraft, etc) ... it just gets them much later and they cost loads more than the PC versions! Hence why I don't play anything beyond MAME games, Zuma, Bejeweled 2 and the occassional lengthy session of Diablo 2 online (damn that game still rocks!)

yeah with diablo2 however you need a special patch to make it native for OSX, however in classic D2LOD you can get about 90 fps

type /fps with the slash into the console to see the result.

its a great tip for when your playing hardcore and want to avoid big lag moments.

If no-one gives your an answer to a question you have asked, consider:- Is your question clear.- Did you ask nicely.- Are you showing any effort to solve the problem yourself 

this laptop is going to be the new flagship laptop for Apple. Set to be VERY powerfull with a dual core CPU...

So - how do I install Diablo 2 for my iBook? *goes off to google...*

EDIT.. google is my friend... Blizzard have patches and native installers for it Now all I need to do is find a no cd crack so I can easily play it on the move (in single player) without faffing abuot with CD's!!

There's just one OS X file to download which is a brand new installer, that does everything. I didn't patch it beyond that, because it will auto-patch itself when you play it online.

Yet to find a NO-CD for it, but you can make a file of the CD easily (Toast it) and then mount that as a standard disk image, just like with DMGs, etc.

PLUS!-Laptops are stupid, they will be up-to-date for so long, then when you upgrade them, they don't work right, so just get a tower, much better.(they last longer!! )

Last mac i actually used was one from late 80's... I still use the mic for my lappy "compaq presario v2205". It sounds like crap. But i remember i had a black and white mac when i was a little youngin... when i went to school i didnt know what a start menu was... all the other kids made fun of me and DDOS'ed me. Ok maybe they didnt go that far, but they made fun of me >

Apple should give me some kind of discount on future purchases. I spent $2400 on my powerbook last June.

Damn!! Diablo was being annoying.. I loaded up the installer, filled out my details, it said put the disk in - I put it in... It spun the disk up.. spun it down and spat it out! Works fine on the PC.. :-( *sob sob*

Any clues? I wonder if my iBook is sensitive to scratches... Thats why I dont lend CD's anymore

Laugh my ass off, because you've just built yourself an adaptive enterprise level server, where-as I'd have a cutting edge desktop machine I can actually do some work on, not run an office from.

Itanium is not and was never designed for desktop use. Show me an everyday application that takes advantage of it? Didn't think so.

Comparing it to a G5 or Core Duo is insane. It's like comparing a school bus to a ferrari.

Macs have come a LONG LONG way from then. MAC OSX is way nice. haven't had the time to really use one. But it converted my completely ANTI-MAC brother, and several other hard-core windows/no-mac computer techys.

I would have to say, if I were to ever do any REAL work on a computer (Photoshop, anything 2d, etc) rather than these games i randomly play, and random programming, I would buy a mac.

I was actually REALLY close to buying a MAC Laptop for school, but i decided to wait it off...

but seriously, if you haven't touched or even SEEN the new MACs don't go dissen them.

If DBP was available for the Mac - I'd move. VERY few games are around now to tempt me onto the PC to play. To prove that point - I spent most of last night playing C64 games (on a 4.4Ghz dual core X2, 7800GTX and 1Gb DDR400). Overkill? I think not - I've not had that much fun playing games in ages!

Rich (or anyone?) - have you tried running DBP under VirtualPC for the Mac?

I can't get games newer than Age of Empires II to run under Virtual PC, it really sucks with graphics support. Then again, it's built for business use, same as VMWare.

Cant quite see the point in buying and expensive machine to run windows on. You might as well just build a cheap standard machine, although windows media center on an iMac might be interesting... But I can safely say that OSX would probably whoopy WMC's ass...

Depends on how fat they are, some fat people can't fit into a big family cars....

And well dude I want one too (Mac book pro that is, not fat people or ferraris) You might be lucky to get DBP working on an intel mac, i don't see why it shouldn't as long as you use Virtual PC, sure it may lag and would be better off with Mac game making apps.

Well when I get another job, I am saving up for a mac, prolly a standard mac, prolly won't find myself spending more than £1000, so no mac book pro dunno yet...
