I was browsing through the showcase of DBP, just for fun, and I realized that something like 7/8 games is based on aliens or has them in it. Any idea why this is? Most of the games here on the forum don't have aliens in them. Just curious why so many were about aliens.

This is because back in late 03/ early 04 I believe there was an Alienwear compo where the games had to use the Alienwear model that was provided.

Megs, you are a zombie plague yourself. A dribbling drooling wreck of an undead moggy, you are.

Alienware Competition Winners

The winning game had stunning graphics - perhaps some of the best graphics ever done in a DarkBasic game yet!

My entry was called "Invaders from Earth". I didn't place in the top 10, but I learned one very important thing : "Make the game easy to get into, and easy to get out of." The judges don't want a game that they have to learn or read 6 pages of instructions to play. They want to start right away and get it fairly easily.

I think there was about 60 entries for that compo, often you'll see the showcase on the main page full with alienware compo games - people visiting the site must think we're all a bit weird I think.

OIE so should have come first. Room war looks fancy, but wasn't much chop.

not to dig up old arguments, but I honestly think OIE is a title that looks like it's well on it's way to being a professional product.
