Just had a 4 player session on OF with my housemates today. For a 5 year old game, it was damn good fun. The guys with the crappy 1ghz machines with geforce 2 cards still ran it on max settings, so props for that! Basically, it's a wicked game, but OF2 has been looming on the horizon for ages. I keep hearing its on the way, then they retract the release date. Now I hear they're releasing a stategy guide before the game is released?!?!

Any other OF fanboys looking forward to OF2? Anyone with any good info about it?

Yeah. There's still nothing else like it out there at the moment. I think it's like 5 square miles on the big maps to roam about on, and the mission editor is quality. Last night we played out own custom deathmatch map which is basically the top part of Everon where the runway is, and a ton of vehicles. You all spawn in a random place with one bullet, and make a run for the first chopper/tank/jeep/plane near you. Or, run for a crate, pick up a LAW and hide in the forest. Or, pick up an M21 sniper, hide in the forest and take out the LAW guys. Then the choppers get shot down, and the people bail out, and you try and waste them as they parachute down. Then they leg it into the forest and you spend the next 10 minutes hunting them, only to find they've got into an APC with a vulcan canon on it .... ahh .. good time.

when i first heard about operation flashpoint i thought what a crappy game, then my brother got it for christmas and i played it and it was sweet. but it ran very slow on min effects on my 2ghz processor and GF4. now i cant wait for of2. of and sof remind me of eatchother alltough they are two totally different games. sweet!

OF certainly does rock - I go to a lot of LAN parties at my old Uni (Essex) and we always play it.. In fact there is a LAN party there at the begining of February. Always a good laugh... And a good excuse to down 2x14" pizza over 3 days

Yeah man. Not to take anything away from BF or BF2. They are sh*t hot and awesome games - they're just mad arcade romps, where as flashpoint is much more realistic, even if it does feel a bit dated. And for LAN parties, yes it does kick ass. Especially seeing as its one of the few games with good coop modes. It's awesome with 6 mates acting as Special forces with NV goggles and silenced HKs, crawling through a village, syncronising take downs of enemy soliders and laying sachel charges and mines to bring down the tanks.

@Lukas W
Recommended spec is P600, 128MB Ram and a 32MB graphics card. It even works on Voodoo2s and S3s, so I dont know why it ran slow on your compo. You should've creamed it!

Yeh, it's still for sale. In the UK its been released under the PC GAMER label.

EDIT::
£9.99
http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=sr&page=title&r=PC&title=587233 and GAME often has it in '3 games for £15' type sales.

You can get all the expansion packs etc. all for one dirt cheap price now. £10 I think gets you the lot.

Oh, so armed assault is the new name for OF2? Is armed assault out yet? Cos OF2 still appears all over the net like the bird flu virus, just waiting to break out. But should we be looking out for Armed Assault then?

Yeah, and Play.com doesnt have OF2 or Armed Assault listed, so they at least don't have any release dates. Searching for Armed Assault there turns up a book on how to defend yourself again attackers armed with swords or guns in hostage situations. I was tempted to buy it, but it was out of stock.
