im in a playbasic programming competition right now. The theme is retro 8 bit or 16 bit atari or commadore classic remakes. My team and I have chosen to remake the infamous Dig Dug. If you haven't played it, I seriousely suggest downloading it for MAME. (make sure you get dig dug 1, #2 sucks) They also released a remake called "dig dug: digging strike" for the DS. I am the artist for the team. I also do some additional graphics coding here and there.

if your interested in the compo:

just a cool logo screen i made for my wanna-be programming company

im not too pleased with the title screen quite yet.

the game itself. (original game screen to the right)

whatcha think?

I love everything retro... they always bring back lots of great memories in dark arcades.

Is there going to be aliens in this dig-dug?

thanks guys. the gameplay is quite a bit different than my last game (jack steele and the tower of horrors) so i'm not sure if this will be "anything like the last game i made", but i do plan to make it at a higher level of quality overall.

I'm surprised anybody knows who i am at this forum... i hardly post here at all. that really made my day.

edit: and yes, there are going to be aliens as well as a crashed space ship - the whole 9 yards. I'm still not sure if the enemies are going to be the same as the original or if i should completely redesign them. I guess it doesn't really matter what they look like, either way they are gunna be lil roswell aliens

That looks great!

It's still recognisable as DigDug but it has a nice Spongebob look to it now . Looking forward to a demo.

Your remake looks great! I was playing dig dug on my pocket pc lately, and also the atari 2600 emulator. Here's a quick snapshot I took with the atari emulator.

Looks great man, keep it up! I was addicted to a digdug clone called digger when I was younger. I loved that game and looking forward to this aswell.
Graphics looks quality, proper retro and all, looking forward to seeing those wee aliens making an appearance.

Yeah, Calypson has a strange habit of dropping in showing some nice stuff and then vanishing again.

I'm looking forward to playing this one for sure !
