Titan Quest:

It's been in dev for quite a while:

Top-down action RPG in "Holy-sh*tness" 3D. The amount of detail is simply scary. But the best thing about this is gonna be the level editor, which looks like it crancks out Unicorn Droppings at break neck speed.

Another cool aspect is the "What you see is what you get" type of loot system. Ever wanted that shiny flaming trident on that lv 89 Minataur? Well now you can pry it from his dead corpse. Whatever they die with, you can snag. Wicked!

This could finally deliver where Dungeon Siege and NWN didn't. Wait for it, newbs.

It's that game where you have to hold shift and click the mouse really fast whilst ocassionally pressing H.

It's not often that I finish early, but this just made me fire my baggage. Dungeon Siege and Diablo games are awesome, but always lacking in a few areas. This looks like the mad codes. Wassit called?

I admit Diablo 2 DID lack in certain areas, but it more than made up for it in it's seductive multiplayer mode and all those obscure items to find.

Dungeon Siege just featured the same bland boring environment over and over. Customizing characters was a bitch, since there was so many of them (up to 7) and if you just stuck with one character like Fallout does, that pretty much eliminates Dungeon Siege's main features. (The 7 char party mode)

Also forgot to mention: It's called Titan Quest.

lol dbmad those graphics ARE very nice but its all in the skill of the modelling and texturing - I see nothing there that couldn't have been done in direct x 8 tbh

Ps I patented the giving kiwis scheme! But heck yeah Megaton can have one anyway for his great contributions of free models and excellent tutorials

Yeah. I did stick with one uber character in dungeon siege. I could never be arsed with parties. I've never really got the concept of a roleplaying game where you play multiple roles and pickup and drop characters. Bizarre shizzle. It's also too fiddly without use of the pause button, but makes the game too disjointed.

I like to concentrate on one bad boy. Beef him up. Make him harder than a titanium cricket box and more devious than concrete cheese. But how can you say DS had the same boring environment? It was a complete rip off Diablo2 environment wise. Dungeons, tundra, swamps, deserts, snow, rock caverns, spider dens. Exactly the same as D2. Wash your mouth out!!!

Btw, I'm looking forward to bumping into that woman on the docks showing off all that leg. Nice tan!

Check out the video here. Looks like the same ol' same ol' hack and slash, but at least its got what looks like a bit of ragdoll physics and some pretty flippin big enemies!

Ah crap, now I need to upgrade my video card again. I was real big into Diablo2 for awhile, before 1.10 came out and ruined the game for us legit players (made normal feel like hell)

barb + teleport ammy = dead amazons!

Looks very nice.

I have to say, in these games graphics do matter. It's all about getting immersed into a believable world. Like you say, it's hack 'n' slash with very little skill in the fighting department. But exploration and interaction is a priority, and that needs scenery that you aren't going to get bored with.
