I'm currently using Acid Pro 4 to create music and it's very easy to use. Maybe I'm wrong, but Acid Pro is not good to create sfx. Any suggestions?

You shouldn't need any software to create FX, as such. There's plenty of sound libraries (online/CDRom etc.) already out there. I think one of the Magix 'Sound Essentials' discs should have what you're after.

For sound editing, on the cheap, I'd look at either Audacity (free) or Sound Forge Audio Studio 8 ($100?). Another freebie you might like to look at, for music/soundtracking is Magix Music Maker 2005 Silver, which is free after registration.

If you want to get into more complex music making software, none of the above will support MIDI, so you'd be better looking at Cakewalk or Cubase (I use Cakewalk - not cheap!).

If you want to make a 'Club Music'-type soundtrack, then Propellerhead's Rebirth RB-338 is now available for free, as well.

I have an XP3000+, 1.5gb DDR333, a 6600GT and I'm programming 3k text-based exe's?!

Rebirth isn't bad for cheap techno sounds, I suppose... But I'd reccomend FL6 instead for dance style music.

I use Reason 3.0, it's a dream to work with, very sexy interface. It's on the cheaper side of pro soft studios as well - only weighs in at 450$, while cubase or protools can run you out to 800. If all you want is a simple 4/4 dance beat, then grab a tracker program, I suggest either skale tracker or modplug tracker

Rebirth is, actually, a very good emulation of the Roland TB303, TR808 & TR909 hardware instruments!

http://www.vintagesynth.com/ has piccies & demos of the real things.

I use Microsoft Direct Music Producer to make MIDIs. Came for free in a book about Programming Roll-Playing Games with DirectX

For sounds I ralley up my friends and tell them to make weird noises for editing, and for speech I either force my computer-slave to do it for me, or my friends do it again, and have it edited

i must say ejay is crap, and that fl studio (fruity loops as it used to be called) is reasonable for creating somethings, but it is aimed for a certain market which is not games; i use a combination of programs, but my favourite for creating has to be reason, as it is an all in one package for everything you need to create music wise. After i have made something in reason i tend to output it to adobe audition where i apply several filters to match it to the feel of the piece, often this is just making it slightly warmer so that it feels more like it is from a cd. Sometimes you will want to do the opposite but hey its your choice the best thing is to download trials of potential software, and then find out which you prefer, which ones suit your needs and which ones match your budget

Reason 3.0 (the big brother of Rebirth) is the tool to have for making electronic music. it's not cheap, but it's worth every penny because you get tons of instruments and samples with it. My favorite part is that they set the UI up like an effects rack. Then if you go get yourself a midi keyboard controller you'll really be cruising.
