now we'll see who's is the best...
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/IE/ie7/ie7betaredirect.mspx

my first impressions...

holy crap! I feel like i'm stuck in full screen mode, and can't get out! I can't find any settings, everything so dang SMALL.
I found how to turn on the "Classic Menu" but there's no way (that i can see) to move it to the TOP of the window... ick

anyway, I don't like it, it's too... "You just need to get used to it"ish

Just downloaded it and using it now...
The 'blank' tab to create a new tab looks unfinished (maybe it is)...and the forward and backward arrows don't seem to be smooth around the edges (see attached - don't know if that's go anything to do with my comp...). Also, has anyone figured out how to make the address bar appear under the menu and above the tabs?
Other than that it's not much different. At least we have tabs now.

It's not unfinished, a few people on Microsoft Connect posted about it and they all came back as being 'by Design'

Looks fine with IE7 on Vista, and I don't think I noticed it when I installed it on XP - does it smooth out when you enable the themes service and put it back to the Luna theme?

Quote: "Also, has anyone figured out how to make the address bar appear under the menu and above the tabs?"

I filed a report about that a couple of months ago, again it's 'By Design' and it won't be resolved - though I guess if it's requested by enough people...

I miss the permanent favourites panel

Other than that it's quite cool.

The Luna theme? Do you mean the default blue taskbar and green start button? I just tried and it's still not smooth...the 'new tab' looks a bit better though.

Robin

Ps.
Something else I've noticed, trying in this box sometimes hangs and then it all appears. Don't know if that's just becasue the system requirements are higher, although my specs aren't all that bad.

That's odd - I'd install it again on XP myself to test, but I've got applicatons that use IE controls for the interface. They don't quite like IE7 yet, i'm waiting for a patch. Though like I say, looks fine on Vista, yet that's a completely different theme.
One thing I do like about it, and I noticed this right from the first private release - It's so much faster! I used to use firefox over IE6, and before I used IE7 I never knew how slow it actually is.

Ah, seems like they have got rid of the annoyances from beta 1. And they finally got around to allowing all items in a favourite folder to be opened in tabs at a single click. Tops

Cheers

Anyone know if this will be upgradeable to the full version when it's released? Don't want to have to reinstall my OS or anything lame like that in the future because IE is tied-in so heavily.

Jeku - yes I'm pretty sure, in fact they've separated it from the OS with IE7. You can uninstall it.

If they don't move that menu bar back up to the top where it belongs by the time the final release is out I'm sure some programmer out there or myself will hack it in there.

I was reading through the IEBlog, and several other locations and a nice amount of people were complaining about that problem.

Too damn slow to do anything, when it first loaded and it takes you to the settings page it wouldn't recognise my mouse clicks.

I dunno about the GUI, maybe it will grow on me.

But the new icon is cool

Something annoying: clicking with the scroll button on a link now seems to follow the link in a new tab...however I frequently click the scroll wheel to scroll down the page by moving the mouse. Often I accidently click on a link and it just opens a new tab instead of scrolling...

You can still use it.. I just went to history (ctrl+H) then clicked on favorites on the left.

And hey, on the danasoft images sy I'm using Netscape 4 lol. I'm using IE7.

Just click on favourites, then on the green pin button to the right.

Anyone know how to move the icons around. With a 1920x1200 display thats a lot of screen estate that I may not want used up by tabs. Always hate >> expansion menus with screens this size. Heh, and the worst offender was Sky's new online program to watch movies and sport (if you subscribe to them). Feels like a slick P2P program (doesn't stream, you have to *w..a..i..t*). But at 800x600 (or whatever low resolution). No changing it, and lots of scroll bars. Grrrr.....

"Does not support your system architecture 32/64 bit"

wtf? Either means its for DOS or some new crazy 128bit system.

I'm running Win2k pro with a Pentium 4 prescott, a 32 bit chip.

Means you need XP probably phaelex. System architecture 32/64 probably means -> Doesn't support your os, be it 32bit or 64bit, please upgrade because microsoft wants you to.

I love the rendering engine IE7, so much better then firefox in that aspect (In my opinion, and this is coming from a firefox fanboy, though i'm sure an even bigger fanboy will come along and argue MY opinion)... but the gui, needs some work.
