Hi all,

Issue 37 of the newsletter is now out. It's a pretty packed issue and features an exclusive interview with games artist Paul LaSalle, a superb set of particles functions and tutorial from geecee3, a great FPSC level loader tutorial from BatVink, new release information, forum chatter, PlayBasic news and the usual 'more'.

Grab it from the normal place (lazy oiks go to the TGC home page and click da cover)

Cheers,

Rich

About the Typing comp,
It stinks it must be in DBP, I ordered DBP in Nov. and still haven't got it. Too bad it can't be in DBC, I have an idea I'd start now...

Ah, so the thread's here instead of DBP Discussion, makes sense.

Great newsletter, got a top idea for the typing compo. Thanks.

I trust you've reported your order as missing then? (like back in December). Forget DBC, if you've got an idea burning away like you imply then use the trial version of DBPro. It will last long enough to get it done.

Nice newsletter, but...
Speaking of software and newsletters, I still haven't gotten any replies to my emails for the software I won in past issues. Just wondering if you ever got them. Thanx!

Looks great, Rich! A little disappointed in the high cost of igLoader, though, as they charge on a per-title basis. This software is something I've been looking for over several years.

Here's some thoughts I had reading through the newsletter:

- Too bad I didn't know Paul LaSalle in real life, such beautiful artwork!
- BatVink I loved your tutorial this month!
- For some odd reason I really like the design of the french FPSC box.

[edit]

Important:

BatVink didn't mention this in his tutorial, but it should be told. If your FPSC level contains a portion of the level that is outside of the main structure then it will be necessary to copy over the skybank directory. Once that's copied over find out what the skybank object file is called to load it up. For example in my test project I tossed together it was:

The reason why this is necessary that for some reason the static object will create trails of itself (when you're outside the structure) almost completely distorting the camera view. Using the provided skybox will solve this problem.

I'm glad to see my first 20-liner review in it!

That compo does sound interesting! It will be interesting to see what's gonna be made from this community!

Of course, but I don't know what it has to do with typing!

Actually, I have quite a few interesting ideas I'd like to try out, even if I'm not going to enter them. Just want to see if they'll 'work' or not.

Paul LaSalle,

Do you sell prints of any of your artwork? For example, the angel that is on the cover of this newsletter? If the price was right I'd be interested in buying a small print or poster size print of it.

*cough* no offense, but this typing compo.. it's really quite shortsighted. Why on earth would programmers need to learn to type? coding random stuff in dbp was the thing that tought me my current 120-whatever-type-with-my-eyes-closed wpm.

I see Pan Pan on the 'front cover' and a mention of Pan pan 3D in the accompanying text, but I see no mention of the game in the newsletter. Am I overlooking something obvious or was Pan Pan overlooked?

Not overlooked, more pulled at the last minute. It was a competition to create a game using the Pan Pan character, but I didn't have the required media in time, so it'll have to come back in a later issue.

I'm baffled that people could have actually complained about the Hands On book. I've bought it and I think its great. Plus, what kind of people would actually complain about the book being in existence? By definition that has to be helpful.

Hey Sorry It took me a while to respond...I seemed to have been sucked into world of warcraft...great game but highly addictive...

Torrey,
I have never sold prints before usually becxause everything I do is covered by NDA...lol
ironic the only people that ever see concept art are people that use it to build the world...
I will consider doing prints in the near future but I need to figure out the best way to go about it..
Jeku and Joel, nice to meet you and I'll see what I can do

Hey, I thought the newsletter was awesome even though I was, (cough) somewhat offended by the cover--but that's just me,

LaSalle, I loved your interview, Keep up the good work, and I hope I can play one of your games in the future.

I go really interested in the compo for TTYT but got too much other stuff to do...maybe

I was really impressed with this newsletter and the past two. I usually don't like the newsletters either.

Also on a sidenote, Paul I sent an email to your hotmail adress, did you happen to recieve it?
