hi,

like everyone else, while working on one thing, this splintered off ...

Tunnel Racer ...... (in the great tradition of tunnel racers)

here's the zip,

www.superidiot.com/tunnel racer.zip

sorry there are no bends ....

if anyone could discuss making a similar game with bends ?

what is set text normal ? will it help me organise my different text sizes ?

can one make patchy fog ?

is there a greater appeal in games under 5mb ?

any tips on the finishing touches ?

finally ... is the saxaphone out of place in a game ?

-----------------------------------------------------

all the media and the dba file are available in the zip.

any and all comment really appreciated.

regards,
miki.

Good game!

But you could decrease the loading times by using .x models instead of .3DS.

Nah... I think it fits well in the game.

hi nerd, thanks for doing the game ...

glad you enjoyed it ....
i normally spend lots of time doing unfinishable projects ...
then every now and then in a couple of days ... something snappy and happy ...

with reference to the slow loading;
i thought i had a slow machine ... and yet the loading time was okay to get a brief look at the splashscreen ... and there's a 2 sec wait in there as well ...

should i strike the 2 sec wait ?

also ... x files are much heavier than the comparible 3ds ( about 3 times heavier) ... which gets back to FINAL GAME SIZE ...
i think people prefer to download smaller games ...
----------------------------
keep it shiny!

ta very much...

I don't know actually... Of course people want small games... But if they get stuck in the game with long loading times it can get rather annoying. Let's say you need to load 15 objects for a level... With 3DS files this would take ages... But with .x it would go rather fast. Thought if you had DarkBasic Pro, using the .DBO file would get you the fastest loading, and small file size.

I would say that faster loading times is more importent than the game size... But that's just me.

I mean... Just look at games today... World Of Warcraft, 4.4 GB... Mafia over 3GB... Games keep getting bigger and bigger. But they focus on getting as small loading times as possible, as that's what people wants. Many users complain if games got too big loading times... And many finds it quite frustrating... That includes me

Miki:
I actually think the file size is identical.
I opened up milkshape, made a sphere, and then exported it to .3DS and .X and the difference is of 24 bites, that difference is minimal, and both files are 4kb on a disk.
Sooo, I'd say just convert to .x for the faster loading times and almost identical file size.
