What is wrong with futurama? They have BRILLIANT scientific stuff in there! Go into space riding a cardboard box... move stars... Build temples the size of 10000 cubits... Brilliance. :p

Turning off your computer causes drastic cooling of the parts as turning it on causes drastic heating of the parts. Weither it was disproven, i know not...

Hmm, well given that the current internet speed is 1.0Mb/s avg 128...

you can only process 128kb/s of data per computer... isn't that kinda ineffiecent?

currently they are only processing 122GB/s. Someone tell me the conversion of hertz to gigabytes.

Futurama is easily the best cartoon series I've ever seen. Shame I'm like 3 years late or something For consistency of jokes it's way higher than the Simpsons, and South Park lost its appeal after the first (very good) episode.

Oh and the Folding stuff.. yeah, ok if you NEED to leave your computer on, run it. But otherwise save some fossil fules and the like (by draining power). Actually I remember reading even when shut down, most PCs still suck up loads of power unless physically turned off (on the PSU), enough to power something small and insignificant, but even so.. they're supposed to be off damnit!

Ben... I ment 4.0GHz as processor speed, how much of that can be used given that you only have a 128 kilobyte/s connection? How fast is there "Super Network Computer?"

USteve, the joke is in the sarcasm.

Uhh, I seem to have forgotten to fully write what I was writting...
I read that turning off your computer causes drastic cool down of the parts, and turning it on causes drastic heat up. Over time, this cycle sacrifices the integretity of the parts... and they break.

I also read (about 14 years ago) that you take 10 days off your computer's life every time you turn it off.

Therefore I leave mine on 24/7 :-P

And how old do your computers actually get before they are replaced? 2 years? 3 perhaps? So what's 20 or 30 days (from a dubious article at best!) vs. the amount of energy wasted leaving it idle for 24/7?
