...Again.

Received my imported copy today, and all is going great! The animations and character models are a step up from the PS1 version, and you gotta love the cheesy voicing and live-action cutscenes they left in!

The game has two single player modes: Classic and Rebirth, the latter of which I've been playing. Classic is, obviously, the exact port old PS1 version (with the exceptions of the smoother animation and textures), whereas Rebirth adds first-person knife-fights, touch-screen puzzles and more enemies/ammo etc.

Luckily, I have a friend who also imported it, and we've been playing multiplayer. Even though you don't see your opponent(s)/ally, the overall setup is pretty good. You get to choose between the surviving... or dead S.T.A.R.S members in either a hybrid co-op, where you help each other get through a specific area, or vs., where you try and escape the mansion first. It's all good fun, although it does feel more of a quick add-on as opposed to an intergration.

It's pretty short if you know your way around, though, and I'm almost up to Tyrant already. Even so, the game has enough replayability to keep you coming back (as far as I can tell), and it sure is full of nostalgia if, like me, you played the first game all the way back in 1996. Long story short, it's a good way to celebrate the release of RE1 10 years ago... on March 30th.

I got the limited edition, which comes with an uber cool DS case (the picture of which I've attached), and it makes it look really good. The problem? At play-asia.com, importing the limited edition cost me a pretty penny ($89, and that's US dollars for all you friends overseas; in other words, expensive).

Any questions?

haha nice, I too can't wait for this game, the multiplayer does sound pretty neat though.

TDP - 'Tis sad, although I personally wouldn't save too many pennies if you feel you really need to strive for it; after all, you're getting about half the experience playing RE1, and double (minus the multiplayer, maybe) in REmake. Of course, that multiplayer, along with the touch screen puzzles do make the game fun, and the first person knife-fights are really good.

Wigget - Yeah, my friend and I played a bit more multiplayer today and it was all great fun. I hear the game is released in Australia and Europe on March 30th, which, coincidentelly, is the exact anniversary of the US release of RE1. I remember waiting in the store that day, nearly 10 years ago, after seeing a demo disc of it and being blown away. I remember when I first *I suppose spoiler if you haven't played the game before, but meh* played, and the Cerberus jumped through the window. Man, I was so scared, I don't think I played it for a few days after that.

Finished it today, and unlocked the "Master of Kniving" mode, which is sort of a hybrid Mercineries and Leech Hunter mini-game, which is great fun.

Anyway, I should seriously get some more sleep. It's 6:38 here, and I didn't get the best sleep last night.

Ha, yeah Manticore. I read that thread and thought it was hilarious (I know a lot of people who play Runescape everyday, thinking they're really cool), so I supposed it just clicked. Twas a very funny time, Manticore!

Interesting...

Nobody cares?

Anyway, I've almost unlocked everything, and might start Classic mode in a few days. The puzzles were awesome, they were pretty cool, and I liked reviving Richard with the microphone .

Well, firstly, why d'you hate Nintendogs ?

Secondly, if you're a fan of RE (And I mean the ORIGINAL, no RE4 fanboy would enjoy the old games, anyway), then I'm sure you'd like the trip down memory lane. For those new to the series, you'll be a little shocked at just how horrendous the opening live action cutscene and voice acting is ("Jill, take this lockpick. It'll be more useful to you, the master of unlocking"!? Not to mention the whole "Chris, it's me!" "Is that you, Rebecca?", when they're two feet away from each other). But, the new additions will also please veterans and newbies. The kniving sequences are fun and challenging, and add in the new touch-screen puzzles and you've got one good game going. In short, if you're an RE fan, pick it up. If you don't mind horrific (yet hilarious) voicing and the standard RE tank controls (for Classic, at least), then pick it up. If you're looking for a more action-oriented game, pick up RE4 (which, as stated, you already have). I can't say, however, that this is THE RE to get if you've just fallen in love with classic RE. The REmake (Resident Evil of the Gamecube) has not been surpassedl; it's a remake of the original with brilliant graphics, amazing music, new, frightening enemies, a new boss and new areas. If you want to experience RE at it's best, look no further than REmake.

Back to RE : DS though. It's great if you've always wanted RE on the go, but for the average Joe, you may want to pick up a... what, $5 PSX copy from the bargain bin, if you don't mind all the fantastic extras. In other words, this game is mainly for veterans.

Thirdly, why d'you think SM64DS is too hard!?

Hehehe I love the dialog in this game! I used to watch my buddies play through this game, and never ventured to play it myself, but the dialogue was so hurting it was funny. I like this line:

When Jill was almost crushed by the walls (or was it roof?), Barry exclaims: "Jill! You almost turned into a jivel sandwich!"

Oh the pain I will definitely pick this one up when it's available

Yeah, the dialog in RE has always been hilarious. Also, in your quote, is "jivel" meant to be "Jill"? Because I'm pretty sure it's Jill .

We've still been going at the multiplayer, it definetely doesn't tire.

yea i might get this game then. the supermario64 is hard because the controls are hard. on the n64 you have a joystick on the ds you have arrows. not quite the same. and i've never really gotten any far on the n64 so when i get far on the ds im stuck. i cant find world 6 or 5.. hmm i dont remember which one, and the puzzles are so confusing. the dog game is just too stupid to be true. i though it was a tamagotchi game but no, you dont even have to do anything. i've left the game unplayed for almost half a year and my dogs still haven't died

the RE4 was good, but i though it would be a little scarier and harder. the game simply sucks too, i love horror games, FEAR is the best horror game i've played (yea im a fan of japanese horror movies).

i cant believe i got to buy fear when i still had 2 months until i turned 18 that dude said, ah well because your almost eighteen i guess its allright to sell it to you. heh, i even started to grow beard to buy alcohole but it didn't work :/ they are very strict in norway about alcohole, tobacco

Lukas - You raise a very good point with SM64DS, using the D-pad, which is exactly why I use the stylus mode, using the thumbstrap as a joystick. IMO, it emulates it perfectly.

I still don't get why people think FEAR was scary--maybe I've just been exposed to extremely horrific things, that the "scares" in FEAR did nothing to me. The graphics are good, the AI is amazing, but there is just no scare factor there for me.

And Jeku, I still disagree with you . Plus, is jivel even a word? It isn't according to dictionary.com, and I've never heard of it. REmake (for the GCN) says Jill (I'd know, I finally unlocked every last unlockable in it on Friday), as does RES (In the Classic version too, so... ) But, there you go.
