I'm making a cartoon series at the moment, taking a break from games. however, i use graphics gale software to make the animations and i save them as an avi file. they work fine on their own, i.e. in windows media player, but when i try to load them into a db project, i get a runtime warning, stating the animation cannot be loaded. it is in the correct folder, but it won't load in db. the file is a valid avi animation. any help would be appreciated. thank you. also, how can i use .wma type music in my games? some files work, others i get a runtime warning. tgc staff say i need correct codecs on my pc to do this, but what are codecs and where can i get them so i can load wma (windows media audio) files?

AVI isn't a file format, so to speak.. it's like a big umbrella that describes the contents of the video file (like QuickTime isn't a format either). In short, DB will only support so many types of codec and whatever this program you are using saves as, isn't one of them.

You could very likely convert it to a different codec (but still remaining an AVI) and have it work just fine.

You can use the Windows Movie maker (http://www.microsoft.com)
the only problem is that the uncompressed and without a codec AVI is too big (2min=100mb!!). But you can use the Rad tools (search google.de).
With this free program you can convert the AVI into a compressed one.
Try it out.

@ Rick we want DBC 1.2 pls

Sonic;

I have to say that this seems odd, I use Graphics Gale (IMHO the best available free program on the net) and my AVI has never had a problem, though I must admit they are not usually longer than 50 or so frames and I never go full screen size with it.

i downloaded a windows media player codec from microsoft.com but i have the same problem. what i'll do is i'll make a very simple avi (e.g. a square changing to a circle changing to a line) and i'll attach it to this thread so you can download it and see if you have the same problem.

i would just make the cartoon in graphics gale and save it as an avi, but that means i can't add music or sounds/voices to it. if i make the individual frames i.e. sprite animation, i'm just afraid that it will take up too much memory if i animate sprite characters in db. the episodes of the cartoon are only going to be a few minutes each, and there certainly won't be the professional 24 frames per second as you see on tv, but what happens when i get around to making a feature length episode or even a movie of half an hour or more? is there any way to compress bmps or jpgs to take up less memory and make it less of a strain on my computer?

A question;

With graphics gale you have several options when you save an AVI from no compression to extreme, and most of the standards (windows etc) what format are you using to save with? I usually use an uncompressed file.
