I liked his other presetnation more... he walks up with a little croud to a poster that has pictures of hamburgers on it. He then places his hands on one of the pictures and removes a rather large (real) burger from it. (insert oooh and aaah here from hungry spectators) He then takes a bite out of it, decides he doesn't like it much, and puts it back into the poster. The photo now features a hamburger with a big bite on it.
I wonder if he can make a Duke Nukem Forever CD appear before our eyes, that'd be impressive.

DC emulator code size: 2.97B, 232,320 lines... yes, that went down. 15% done.

2 coins. When he pulls his top hand away you can see he's got the coin in his right hand (that's why his hand is one finger out and the other 3 clenched).

Yeah the coins can be figured out, but the salt pot is confusing.

Mirrors and a gag order on the audience. You can never trust a video, remember when David Copperfield made the plane disappear ... I rest my case.

I was so dismally dissapointed by the second (eventual) trick on that stream that I switched off. On the first trick the camera happens to shake and struggle to keep up as the bird dissapears, on the second it isn't even discreat ... the camera just looks away and back again before it's fully revealed.

Yeah, as cool as these things are, you have to remember they're not possible. They do em all outside with an apparent "random" audience, but they're all stooges (at least the ones that count).

The salt through the table one is probably done by having a hole in the glass and someone off camera is probably sliding the glass along so the hole is moved into place, then sliding it back.

It's still cool stuff. You have to just kinda ignore the "wow" factor that might blur your thinking and think of the most logical way to achieve it. If you can't see how it could be done and fool the people around the magician, then chances are the people around the magician are all stooges.

another factor to take into account is that it's possible to make a movement fast enough that the human eye can't pick it up...

the only cool part was when he cut the orange open and then found the lemon and cut that open and found an egg... then pretended he found the bird in the egg (though obviously he had it stuffed somewere, unless the bird's bones were made out of rubber)

There *is* such a thing as sleight of hand--- just because you can't figure it out doesn't mean they're a fake audience. It just means you can't figure it out, and that's why they're called magicians.

Haven't you ever seen that old footage of a sleight of hand master pulling hundreds of lit cigarettes out of his mouth?

Ahh. Magic.

One of my favourite hobbies. I prefer the close-up variety however. More real. I'll perhaps knock up some videos for you to see

Remember David Copperfield, most of his tricks were camera tricks and the audience had to sign gag orders before hand. I don't get that "wow" feeling unless I'm there.

I've seen him live twice, about 10 years ago or so. He had some good tricks.

If you're thinking of that cigarette eating trick where he lights about 20 cigarettes and appears to pull them into it mouth while puffing on them etc etc. then he actually did that one! No trick involved there! Apparently he didn't really practice it much ... I wonder why?

I remember the levitation trick by David Blain. He appeared to rise a few feet off the ground and amazed everyone. In the end, it was a camera trick. He would rise just an inch off the ground in front of the live audience by leaning forward, which anyone can do. Then the TV program added the two feet afterwards with a wire, and people dressed in the same clothes as the live audience.

Yeah, I saw that. Also they showed him getting someone on the street to sign the name of someone they love on a bit of paper. He doesn't see it then they fold it up and pass it to him. He burns the paper and rubs it into his bare arm, and magically the name appears with the ash.

They then showed how it works. Basically they do it 2 times. The first time he takes the paper and claims his "magic powers" aren't working that well etc and rips up the paper. In reality he did a simple sleight of hand trick and has the real paper in his hand. He then (and this is when the original footage starts) gets the person to repeat the name on a new bit of paper while he turns around to make sure not looking. Obviously he quickly looks at the old paper now (whilst everyone is looking away) and starts writing the name onto his arm using a bit of black pencil stuff that is embedded secretely in his thumb nail. The rest is simple.

Basically it's tricks 'n stuff. Even easier if on video. Yawn.

Cheers

I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing

He actually asks if they printed the name. If they say no, he tells them they were meant to, if they say yes, he tells them they were meant to handwrite it. Either way, they basically achieve the same thing.

By the way, the main technique used in sleight of hand and street magicians is misdirection. A lot of magicians will mislead the audience by keeping their attention on one thing whilst performing the trick elsewhere. For example, in the first video, he holds the egg up high in his hand, everyones watching him crush the egg whilst his other hand is free to retrieve the bird from wherever it's concealed and then bring it up and let it go near the egg. It's hard to pull off because you need to be very convincing but good magicians can do it well.
