The optimus looks promissing. No thanks on the projection KB though, I have had too many nightmares with laser scanning products at work to rely on one for my typing.

A downside to the laser keyboard is that there is no tactile response for us touch-typists who don't look at the keyboard.

Actually I've heard it's pretty dodgy. Shame, looks like a fantastic concept.

I quite fancy one of those optimus 3-key thingies, only $100 too.

I *really* wanted one. Just because it looks so cool. Unfortuantly all the reviews I've read reckon it's a nice gimmick to show off down the pub, but a load of rubbish in real life. Mainly because of the tactile response being non-existant (as mentioned above). Shame, cos is totally anti-gravcartastic!

Cheers

What does that mean? Does that mean its slow at seeing what you type?

tac·tile ( P ) Pronunciation Key (tktl, -tl)
adj.

1. a. Perceptible to the sense of touch; tangible.
b. Characterized by or conveying an illusion of tangibility: “Heaney must thus continue to be a poet rich in tactile language” (Helen Vendler).
2. Used for feeling: a tactile organ.
3. Of, relating to, or proceeding from the sense of touch; tactual: a tactile reflex.

[From Latin tctilis, from tctus, past participle of tangere, to touch. See tact.]

Definitions 1a, 2 and 3 are relevant.
If you closed your eyes and tried to type on that laser keyboard, it would be a guessing game as to which keys you would be hitting.
Also, the absence of key travel is unnerving.

god darnit! I click the link going "AWESOME! a CASE MOD FO RA KEYBOARD MAKING IT LIKE OPTIMUS PRIME!" boy was I fooled, although in concept yeah it is pretty cool. The projection one looks insanely non workable, I mean how does it tell where your fingers press?! cause wont your shadow get in the way of several keys at the same time, it's a logistical nightmare. Other than that yeah teh optimus looks cool with the graphics etc, but would it show images for all games, or can you customize them for each game/setup??

Because this can have special function keys for *every* application you own. Start up PSP and the special function keys change in shape to basically replicate the toolbar on your keyboard. Word causes the same keys to change into Word shortcuts and so on. Absolutely brilliant basically. Couple that with another set of keys that look like icons for your applications and it's totally awesome.

I saw that they had released a demo keyboard that consisted of just 3 keys. And someone worked out that judging by the size of the USB connector on the side (didn't mention size or scale etc) then the keys were a good size bigger than a normal keyboard. Hopefully it was just an example, and obviously a three key tool (they are going to release it apparently) would just be used for your most used applications, and the keys would therefore be bigger. On the other hand it looked quite a lot like the mockups for the full keyboard, so hopefully they are not having problems making the keys any smaller. Hope not, but then again they keep pushing back the dates, so it makes me wonder.

Cheers

I think the projector keyboard is a bit weird but it's something you can get used to. The 3-button thing is silly, espetially with that price.

DC emulator code size: 9MB. Compiled: 4MB.
Overall Status: 20% done. CPU: 80% (no floats), RAM: 10%, GFX: 0%

surely is. how would that and the keyboard be 100 and 120 $ respectively? if three buttons costs $100 than a keyboard should be at least $3000. i love it just as much as the next guy but im not made of money. id pay up to $130 for it.

They reckon the 3 key device is 96x96 (or so) with the final keyboard being 32x32 (I think). Apparently the cost benefit will be something like 8 times cheaper per key. Someone worked out that this would make the full keyboard about $400. Still mighty expensive for a bit of a novelty item. Is nice, but then a much more powerful graphics card is much better overall IMHO.
