Wow. Simply freaking amazing. Apparently it was all rendered in one pass... Not sure what that means... I'm assuming it means it's rendered closer to real time than, say, Toy Story or Monsters Inc.?

That is some awesome water. Did anyone else notice the CG guy's who-who was on fire? That's gotta hurt.

Holy crap! That is the most realistic water I've seen yet. Even more real than real.

A lot of scenes take several passes to render each image. For example it might render the 3D scene in a pure way, then a second pass for distortion (i.e. gas fume haze or water droplets or reflections, etc.), then more passes for more effects (i.e. western-style black and white, etc.). Finally you have your image with all the effects in.

Very cool - scary shark though, it's so good that most people would'nt assume it was CG, I'm not so convinced by the fire though, I thought that was fairly obvious CG.

The water bits when its jumping out of the water looked a bit lame to me (the water particles falling off), and the raising of the water level when the shark is just below the surface wasn't quite spot on but was close(in my opinion). Under water though - flippin hell - pretty damn impressive. I wouldn't know the difference if it wasn't for the moving arty camera angles.

the second video had some good water flow sequences, like the browny water was good. All in all i could do that but I don't want to.

Yeah, I'd say this edges it from Flood which has for a long time been teh pwningest water simulator out there. The first shots of the ocean are unreal, as is the brown water flowing through the town.

Impressive that this was one pass, but there's no way it could be anywhere near real time. Solving the Navier-Stokes equations that accurately would whack it up into the "hours" band, rather than the "milliseconds". If it is close to real time, (and they're under 30) then there could be a Fields Medal waiting for them.

--------

Just realised, this is it. We finally hit absolute photo realism. Must be 10 years till it comes to games, 15 till it comes to handheld.

That is pretty sweet rendering, and I though the effects of Real Flow were sweet (actually I never took the time to install it, maybe I should)

What I meant was this was the first time I've seen something that I absolutely honestly can't tell at all is CG.

If you can tell that the attached clip is CG then you are lying.

Wow...I'm totally blown away. The part where the shark jumped out of the water was a bit weird looking, but otherwise this was mind blowing. Those sharks looked so much better then the one Jaws...it's amazing...

Bizar guy, there is a non-itunes version of quicktime available on their website, but it's VERY hard to find, and there are also QT alternatives out there.

I use a QT alternative and a Real(crap)player alternative.

[EDIT]
The QT standalone installer http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
here's a QT alternative http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/1049831315/1
and a Realplayer alternative http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_players/real_alternative.cfm

SirFire, you're my hero. I would have never found that (I dbout it was even there the last time I checked).

That is absolutly amazing, by the way. Only problems were when the water stuck to the shark, and how the flames were a bit too reqular. if only the new star wars movies had looked that good. Heck, if you ask me, serenity looked better than the star wars movies, but that's probably because they didn't try fitting cgi into every second of the movie.

9/10, it was a guess between the bolt and the frozen beads as to which was which, and the first car render is really convincing - but I'd say we were miles away from photo realism.

I certainly hope someone is inspired to remake Jaws though, that would be cool to have some real shark horror again, Deep Blue Sea sucked.

The first car picture nearly fooled me, it was just the number plate that deffinately looks CG.

The numberplates showed it up to me too. The focal blur wasn't right.

And the car doesn't look like it's actually touching the paving stones, which are a little off too.

And the buildings in the background looked a little too fuzzy--- like they were trying to hide low detail, rather than POV blur.
