Blender, its better than milkshape tools and interface wise and its FREE. It makes alot more sense than milkshape but its got a learning curve the size of... something thats big....

3dsMax: versatility; power; precision.
Everything except 3dsMax: reasonably priced.

Blender is, in my experience, the hands-down best animation program that you can get for free (or for less than $1000)... but that's my opinion. Anim8or is pretty darn good, too

Softimage|XSI. I like MS3D but it lacks a few tools that greatly speed up production time and give better results.

Anim8or is potentially the best, but it needs to be upgraded by the maker to work with 3DS animation.

If it wasn't so buggy gameSpace would be the best.

Well, MilkShape 3D is the best I've ever used.
I wish I could afford 3DS Max.

I wish I could model but out of all the different programs I have tried witch includes Maya, 3ds max, light wave, game space, blender, milk shape, anim8tor the easiest and most user friendly was game space. Another nice thing about game space is it is very affordable and gives you a lot of tools.

It's "which" not "witch" (thats the magical lady's that fly around on brooms), just for you future reference (please don't take that offensively ). But the only 3D modelling program i use is CS4, and thats not even really a 3D modelling program, but a world builder .

Offcourse not , actually , i`m GLAD you have posted that , so that i can try to watch out to NOT make the same misstake in my future posts.. (English is a darn hard language to learn... but in time..)

It seems (so far) that ani8tor and milshape are the best when all things considered (and blender as well , becouse from what i have heard , it has many good features , and it is free )

I love TrueSpace 7. For all the features, it really worth the buy. A lot least buggy than TrueSpace 6.6 and GameSpace.
I like Milkshape too, fast and quality modelling, and very affordable.
I don't know why, but i don't really like Cinema 4D.

I really like Milkshapes UI, very basic, and it's all there. But they have some annoying crashing bugs, and it's still a little buggy in some areas, and lacking in others.

Blender really looks nice, i would like it, but it's the least user friendly peice of crap i have ever seen.

and there their's 3ds MAX, i really liked it while i used it. But i don't have it, and it's way over priced for someone like me.

Rhino3D.

I have a ton of modellers, and Rhino is the only package I can use creatively, I have 3DS Max, and that does'nt get used for much more than flipping a few normals and welding - Rhino was self explanitory, how often do you find that in a modelling package? .

For animation I do like the uber-cheap CharacterFX though, it's a very nice package for DBPro, as it can export perfect .X models without any messing around with export plugins etc.

Cheep:
Milkshape has a very solid .x export. I do not use it but have looked at it and see that it is a strong modeling program for the money.

When I looked at blender the interface was confusing, but the program is powerful.

Mid priced:
Animation Master Rocks! It is simply incredible for making organic items. I sometime use it over my big boy programs.

mid high:
I can not say enough about cinima 4d. It is a power house and very easy to use. tutrials are great and texturing is a breaze.

High End:

Maya does it all very powerful and my favorite.

3ds max is a standard, lots of plugins. A good one to learn.

Lightwave has an big following. I do not think like their interface, but this is a very solid package.

It was fixed in 6.6
But it's a new exporter in 7, it is better.
