Okay. I'm going to try to emphasize that this isn't a team request as much as it is a request for people with very specific non-game related talents. I'm not some schmuck whose looking for people to help me with some awesome fantastic mmorpg. That said, mods, please don't lock or remove this thread without reading it in its entirety! If you know me, you know I'm not one of those people

I'm looking for people who can do impressions of political figures and media moguls. I can't. I've tried and I'm horrible at it. I'm making a new game that's similar to Cheney Hunter and for this entry into my political series of 2D games I'm looking for people who can do decent to excellent (or just down-right funny) impressions of political figures. The game will feature over twenty politicians, media people, and enemies of the state, including George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Bill Clinton, Bill Maher, Saddam Hussein, etc. If you can do impressions of people and you have a decent microphone for recording, I'd love for you to drop me an e-mail (maximus_pt1@yahoo.com).

Again, please don't lock/ delete this! I'm asking because I thought this might be fun for some people, and it isn't really a team request

OMG, that's the most bizarre yet cool team request I've ever heard. I'd jump on the bandwagon and give you a hand if I was any good at impressions. I can do a passable Irish accent (but there's bound to be someone who're actually Irish who can do it better) and German accent (ditto), but no particular figures. Good luck mate!

Won't I get sued for using the itunes stuff though? I hope not,
that'd be awesome

Edits (that's what I get for hitting message without thinking):

Terry Wogan... wasn't he the guy on the BBC? All we have is BBC America and they don't show news that often but I seem to remember that name from someplace.

Could you maybe do an Austrian accent? Like... say... Arnold Schwarzenegger? He's one of the characters in the game too

I might need to buckle down and try to do some of the people that we won't be able to find, namely Bill Maher, Jon Stewart, Ted Kennedy, and Al Franken. Man, this game has too many characters lol. It's at 22 right now, PLUS we might make all of the people who contribute stuff to the game into playable characters accessible via cheat codes. I'd hate to have to remove some of the characters because we can't find voice actors so I might just have to do them... they'll sound terrible but eh

Matt, listen to Air America radio (find local station or stream it) and record it it, you'll have all of the most hilarious sound bites from all of those people saying the most wild and outrageous things - an the best part its really their voices!!!11!one!1!

best shows for that are in the afternoon and evening:
Randi Rhodes 3pm-7pm
Majority Report 7pm-10pm
(all times Eastern Time US)

I LOVE Air America! Randi Rhodes is my hero, without a doubt! Al Franken's show is also hilarious but I rarely get to listen to it As a matter of fact, Al Franken is one of the characters in this game! On that other thread I said you were cool for being from New York, but scratch that... you're twice as cool for having such good taste, hehe.

Anyway, I was already thinking about doing that... taping Air America, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Bill Maher, and maybe some of the news channels, so I could get some quality sound bytes... but don't you need an ASCAP/ BMI licensing thingy for that? I'm hoping to make money from this game but I don't wanna get sued by anyone

Unfortunately, none... unless you count Michael Moore, Ted Kennedy, and Jerry Falwell... perhaps we could substitute their talking with moo sounds I suppose that's up for debate, lol

LOL I think that would be awesome! No more debate... get recording Cattle Can you do that Boston accent? "I pakked the cah in havad yad"

The characters that are posing me the most problems are Bill Maher, Ann Coulter, Jon Stewart, and most of the bad guys (Osama, Saddam, Hugo Chavez, and Castro). I need a Jersey guy, a jewish dude, and maybe some chick from Deleware... most of the girls I've met from Deleware were like Long Island chicks, but without the pseudo-Queens accent, lol. No offense Delewarians!

I'm kinda running out of time on this project lol. I wanted to get it done by mid-march and the "media acquisition phase" is taking too long

Nope, we won't have Gerry Adams or any of the other BBC cast members. With the exception of the "enemies of state," (Osama, Saddam, etc.), all of the characters in this game are from U.S. Politics and U.S. media. We're already planning a sequel (of course), and we're hoping to double the number of characters. When we do that, we'll include a lot of BBC personalities and a bunch of the cats from Air America.

Each character in the game has a special move that can kill opponents. Ann Coulter's special move? She makes her opponents kill themselves just by talking

We're still in the process of writing a script... it probably won't take too long. I'll e-mail a copy to you tonight or tomorrow

- Me

EDIT: PS, one more thing... are any of you authentically talented with 2D imagery? We're going to need backgrounds, and I'm probably going to do them myself in paint (how's that for quality!), and if I can't do them myself I might ask one of our team's caricature artists to do them... but if anyone is bored and feels like throwing in some 2D imagery we'll give you credit and a link to your site in the game Sorry, this is sort of a blatent team request and if a mod sees it that way feel free to remove it. But please, do the world a favor: Play Cheney Hunter first, lol. Just think, our game's backgrounds will look THAT BAD if I do them

I wouldn't exactly say Gerry Adams had anything to do with the BBC, but I think you're just using that as a term for British politics. If so, fair play! American politics has enough clowns without including all our clowns too! Good luck mate.

Oh! I was thinking it was some political guy that I'd never heard of, lol.

Cattle, you should e-mail me when you get the chance. I want to tell you all of the different characters that are going to be in the game, but without telling everyone... some of them need to be a surprise for those who are going to play it (if anyone actually does, lol). Anyway, if I tell you them all you could let me know which ones you might be best at. I'd have e-mailed you already but it's not posted, hehe.

That's actually really good. It's a heck of a lot better than my impression, hehe. Do me a favor... record these lines in that voice, drop them in a zip, and then repost them (or e-mail them to me if you prefer):

"Go Down!" (not "get down" as he usually says, hehe)
"I'm going to Pump... you up!"
"I'll Be Back"
And then, of course, the "arrrrgh" noises he makes when he's getting hit/ blown up/ nuked... try one or two of those (maybe a short one and a longer one)

Schwarzenegger is one of the people I'm the most worried about, because he's the hardest to do (imo). But I think you do it great. For Bill Maher and Jon Stewart, I think I'm going to end up doing them myself... unless Cattle does them, either way it should be a New Yorker who does their voices so the accent comes out right

EDIT: PS.- try to do them all with an aggressive voice. It is, after all, a gut-quenching blood-spraying action title

I agree, it rules. And he said he wasn't really trying which makes it even more impressive. If he writes back soon, he's got the part hehe. Just 15 more characters to go

I found a voice actor on gamedev.net who flat-out nailed five impressions without missing a beat... I can't wait until all of you hear this guy! When you hear some of these impressions, you're going to think I actually commissioned the real-life person to do the voice acting, lol.

This is going to be a spoiler, so if you were looking forward to playing this game (for whatever reason) and don't want the surprise of what characters show up to be ruined for you (for the most part), then don't read this next paragraph!

The roles that are left:
George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Bill O'Reilly, Bill Maher, Ann Coulter, Jon Stewart, Saddam Hussein, Kim Jong Il, Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro, George Bush Sr., Al Franken, and Al Sharpton

For those of you doing math, you're probably saying "Wait, that would make 21 characters... weren't there 22?" Yes, but we decided to drop Jesse Jackson this morning.

For Kim Jong Il, because I've never heard his voice, I think anyone with a decent Korean accent will suffice. There's this guy who works in a grocery store down the street, and he's Korean... so now I need to figure out how to convince a 50-something year old Korean grocery store clerk to come to my apartment and lay down a vocal track, lol.

Odds are he won't want to impersonate Kim Jong Il--- you should just get a generic Asian accent. Most people can't differentiate a Korean from a Chinese accent

Yeah, but the people who can are going to flip if I get, I dunno, some cantonese dude to play the role of a Korean dude

It turns out you're 100% right Jeku... I went to the store a little while ago, mentioned the game, and he responded with a very strange and scary look that's probably going to give me nightmares tonight, hehe. I guess if the "fit hits the shan" I can get my girlfriend's brother to do it, but he's from the Phillipines and that sounds more like a mix between Spanish and Asian (or so I think anyway). Anyone know an asian dude with a decent mic?

Those were fantastic. The "I'll be back" ones sounded like you were asking more than telling, though... I think I need a second opinion. I liked "Argh" more than "arrgh, but again, that's me. But the first "argh" is defitely a keeper, as is "I'm going to pump you up" take 1. "Go Down 1" was excellent, but your mic sort of clips out at the apex of the wav. What are you recording these with, btw? Anyway, let me run these by my girlfriend (whose sort of like my life's executive producer, lol) and I'll see what she thinks, too. Keep up the good work

Hmm... try doing the recordings with the mic close to your mouth, but not directly in front of it. Without a decently-spaced pop filter it'll tend to max out the wavelength.

And before someone says "but wait, isn't there a pop filter built into most microphones?" The answer is yes, but they're actually connected to the mic and thus they really only keep wind out. If you've ever seen an image of your favorite band in the recording studio and singing (that famous image of John Lennon comes immediately to mind), then you'll have seen the funky round black thing that they sing into that's usually spaced a few inches from the actual mic... that's a professional pop filter I used to be a DJ at a college radio station and I try to use that stuff wherever I can, so as to pretend I didn't waste a few years of my life, lol

lol I'd love to use all the real people's voices but I don't want to end up getting sued. Bush says enough stupid stuff to make a calendar with a stupid quote for every day of the year for a few years (as a matter of fact, there just so happens to be one, called "George W. Bushisms")... what I'd give to access that sort of comic genius!

We've nailed the Cindy Sheehan voice in one take this afternoon. We're still waiting for Dot's Shwarzenegger and there's still a bunch of roles that aren't assigned. Just thought I'd bring this up so the thread didn't die.

Also, we're still looking for 2D artists. If I don't find any by Wednesday of this week I'm going to do the backgrounds and animations myself. We have two caricature artists doing the heads but the bodies are going to be separate. Just thought I'd mention that as well

We've been talking for the last two days about letting the voice actors come up with their own scripts for certain characters. We just tell you what we need them to say generally and you create the rest. It works for some voice actors but not for others... some like creative independence, while others want to be told directly what to do. So if you'd prefer scripted, let me know, but if you'd rather be creative and do them with your own style, that's cool too.

We've already cast Osama through gamedev... just thought I'd mention that.

If you do them on your own, you should have them say things that fit these classes:

Intimidation: Something they say to their opponent(s) to get them riled up

That was Cool: Something they say after they kick butt or otherwise do something nifty

Ouch: An Onomatopoetic (sp?) sound effect used when the character takes damage. It can be a sound or a phrase or a combination of the two

Victory: Something that's said when the character wins

Loss: Something that's said when the character loses
