I like this even better than that OLED keyboard that was doing the rounds a while back...

imagine a big TFT or plasma screen as your desk and this tech to use with it

At first I just thought it was just another touch screen monitor ... and I think it is, but it's the software that looks like the macdaddy. Very cool stuff.

i believe there was a thread about this recently.

But it's really cool my friend showed it to me a month or two ago, really awesome.

i was thinking about how hard it would be to program those games they were playing at the end, heh.

yeah, it seems like an extension of touch screen and gestures taking the place of mouse selection, but it is the way to go imo, mice and tablets are dated, it`s about time they came up with something new, being able to invoke a keyboard and things like that add some versatility to it and it would feel more natural to just touch the close button with your finger to close a program, sketch witha fingertip or dummy pen etc.

theres another one on that site that looks interesting, they use a brush with a camera in the head to paint on the screen, the cool bit is they pick up textures or animation clips from real life objects and paint with them, I was thinking you could do that with a webcam and some tricky software to detect where on the screen the camera was pointing (like the old lightpens)

Game programming would be awesome. The first thing that comes to mind is the RTS genre (surprise surprise). You just touch all the units to select, or draw a lasso with your finger. Touch a unit then touch an enemy unit to attack. You could give commands really quickly in the heat of battle.

Wow, when I heard about the 3d desktop in Vista, I immediatly thought of how limiting a mouse would be to navigate through it in a way that takes advantage of it's 3d-ness... This would be absolutely awesome

I was never really excited with the keyboard thing, but I can't wait for that screen to become common/standard computer hardware.

DC emulator code size: 9MB. Compiled: 4MB.
Overall Status: 20% done. CPU: 80% (no floats), RAM: 10%, GFX: 0%

Not quite, the main difference here is that a regular touch screen can only detect one point at a time. And obviously, multiple points are a major feature in that video.

Either way, this is a nice glimpse into the future and I want to make love to it.

It can't replace the mouse unless you have two screens, bacause your hands are in the way of the picture. It's really cool though.

and you would have to thoroughly wash your hands everytime you wanted to use it, otherwise you would be cleaning it everytime you used it

uh! I tend to wash my hands on a regular basis, don`t know about the rest of you , why is my hands being in the way of the picture an issue?, it never seems to cause problems with real life, it`s not like I need another reality so I can see how use stuff in the real world so why would I need another screen

You don't walk around with your hands in front of your eyes. This is a screen, which is your eyes, which is your reality. I think it would be better if your hands were on some sort of Wacom pads.
