Hi all,
I'm just looking for a bit of advice really. I'm new to the whole web hosting deal and don't really know what I want. I've already learnt that almost all hosting sites don't include VAT but what else should I look out for? For instance do some companies include extras that bump the price up but I wouldn't need and are there other things that I don't want to be without.

One other thing, I'm working on a site and the total file size is 588kb with the site nearly finished. If I see an offer of 250mb web space does this mean I'd have 249mb+ space going un-used or would the website take up more room online than it does on my hd?

Apologies if these questions seem stupidly simple. Thanks in advance.

you would be able to use that extra 249mb of space for EXEs, images, etc.

and unless you're making your site in ASP.net, DON'T get a windows server, they cost a LOT more monthly

Was going to edit my first post but now I'll put it here. The site in question won't be hosting exes or anything of that sort, there won't be anything to download either. It's purely an information site about a local club.

I'd say go cheap, as long as it has adequate space, and you can do html, CSS, etc. you should have no problem. Shop around and you should find something.

both html and css are client side technologies. What you need to be looking for are whether you can use php and mysql (or other scripting languages) as well as space and monthly bandwidth. www.geehost.com offers great deals.
