Matt Rock's Forum Posting tip #5682
Never, ever, post while under the influence.

Sorry about that. Moving on. Yes, if you upgrade your OS to a newer OS, I'm pretty sure it formats your hard drive (or at least it did it to mine on my last computer). Backup all of your crucial data and re-install any of the software you purchased... Think of installing a new OS the same way you think of getting a prostate exam... it's a pain in the butt, but you'll only need to do it every few years

Well, I didn't have to reinstall everything. I chose the "upgrade" option when installing, so it updated all the files that needed updating/changing/adding and kept all the old files there. That was on the Windows XP Pro disk that I was using..

Still, I'd be extra safe and backup all of your data anyway... if anything should go wrong, you'll thank me for that little tidbit.

Never trust the upgrade versions - there is usually always a problem later on. Always go for the full version.

I just use C: for installs, and a seperate partition for all my crucial data. Windows never formats the other partition, so it is safe forever.

Aren't partitions bad for your hard drive somehow? I feel like I've heard that somewhere.

Put it this way. You are bound to forget to back up
something. Just hope it's not important...
