Okay i ve got a good idea for a program... or idea for a game....

Okay ive been seeing the more and more demand for better graphics and i was wondering if this is possible

Okay look would this be possible
put real live things and people in a game
by doing this
Recording cinematics of like hitting and moving... and getting hit and stuff
and every time you hit lets say

X on a PS2 controller it executes a kick movie... and if it hits the other player it would execute the proper movie////cinematic for getting hurt by a kick
so it gives the illusion of the player playing the game but he is just executing movie actions.

so would this be possible?

well playing some animations is all well and nice but you have to take into account the lighting off the clothes the person is wearing as it wouldent look right all the time, and the anims would seem rather looping, werent there games like this before? you can kinda easily make out the pictures tho.

The problem with the idea that it would play the movie/cinematic every time that a move is executed would make the game a bit repetitive. Maybe every so often, it would also greatly limit camera angles, different arenas, etc. It is a nice idea, but it wouldn't be plausible if you think about it. Also, putting real people getting hit into a game is taking it to a bit of an extreme. Once one leaves the boundaries of CG and tries to put literal realism into games...that's when you know you need to go for a walk or something...

\\EDIT//

Oh... and this thread would be better suited in Game Design Theory.

That's basically Mortal combat. That was all digitized people, as far as I remember.

Actually, something like this already exists - only better.

It's called Kick Ass Kung-Fu and was shown-off recently at Wired's NextFest.

Download video here.

There's a reason why the industry has turned its back on FMV games--- because they suck.

don't mean to be harsh, but have you ever played Sewer Shark or Night Trap?

CG is at a point nowadays where it looks better than raw FMV. Filtered FMV can look good, like in NFSMW, but it's not that common.

Phantasmagoria did it in the early 90's... 93 or 94 I think (and at the time, that was the scariest game around, imo). So did "Under a Killing Moon," also around that time. Killing Moon used video sequences of live actors for every character, and avatar cameras (which film in a full 360 degrees) to film on several different sets, all to create a first person cheese-noir detective game. Who could forget UAKM's weird Fire Marshall Bill impressions? Classic.

^ @ Jeku, who posted at almost the same time as me: Come on, Night Trap was the best game on 3DO! Okay, that doesn't say much actually

There was an xfiles game out like that and i liked it, also a game called fox hunt or something along those lines they where both fun to play. With a little bit of imagination any obstackle can be overcome. EG. lighting if you record the character doing the same thing three times once in red light again in green and again in blue you can blend all the images to create any lighting condition you want. it would take some work but it is not impossible.

Any spelling mistakes are totally In tensional.

Most fighting games repeat the same moves, so it is not really more limited. It means that you can easily put friends in your games, tailoring them to a personal level. I prefer the style of artist made graphics though.
