.3DS files work for SURE in DB

Though there is a bit of problem, animations in .3ds dont work in Dark Basic, only movement animations in .3ds work, by movement i mean something moving, only that, no rotations or anything else working...

Some 3DS exporters don't export animations, just the mesh (such as the Milkshape 3DS exporter)

There's also the issue of DB not being capable of reading joints. Objects animated by moving joints around only work in DB Pro

Thats wrong. I can load models with joints in DBC from milkshape but there are a lot of problems if you want to do that. You know there are a lot of diffrent .x and you have to pick the right one out

Actually, models in DB Classic must have joints, but not bones, or mesh deformation.

I was taught that they basically meant the same thing

http://www.swissquake.ch/chumbalum-soft/forum_temp/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17918 (Paying particular attention to the last paragraph of the last post)

Now I'm curious, what's the actual difference between the two? (Sorry for hi-jacking your thread spunky...)

Bones are parts of a skeleton inside a 3D model or Human. Joints are the polygons that fit around the skeleton in many different parts like hollow cylinders, hands feet, and head.

DBPro can use a whole mesh which is not built from cylinders. More like a human skin. This is called mesh deformation.

The loading times when using 3DS files in darkbasic can kill... It's much faster to use something like .x... Or even better, .dbo format. But that only works in dbpro...

Why not convert from 3ds to x?

I've only ever noticed that happen with DB Pro - classic seems to take only a fraction longer to load 3DS files
