Most of you will hate this. It's a bit bizarre. Kinda hard techy dnb with some rough edges and slightly weird sounds and bits. It's been on the back burner for months, but I got up this morning and finished it off, just cos I've not released a tune in ages.

Open minded music lovers only, I feel. Not that it's particularly off-the-wall, it's just that its not even slightly commercial.

As long as it's not ReOra part 2, I shall love it.

Bwahaha. ReOra is only for those that have seen the KiaOra adverts. Otherwise, it's just plain lunacy.

I quite like it. You've probably answered this in almost every music thread you've ever posted (so feel free to link me to one of them) but what apps/kit do you use to make your music?

Thanks chaps. I use Skale Tracker, which is a beta clone of an old tracker called Fast Tracker. Not very powerful, but still has the use of VSTs. I use it because I've been using trackers sinse '95ish and that's where I'm most productive. I have a pretty big library of VST effects and also use Cool Edit Pro 2 for editing, and SimSynth2 for some sound synthesis.

A very unprofessional setup, but I really don't think the software makes much difference. It's whatever you feel most productive in. Skale is the one for me and it's free!

This isn't tech step btw, it's just dark dnb with a little breakdance influence

What's with the funky panning on the drums? Sounds decidedly weird on the buildups, but not too bad in the verse I suppose. Kick is a little far back in the mix during the verse, but then it's a little upfront in the breakdowns. Great bass btw really pumping it out there.

The song seems to improve in quality over the course of the 6 minutes - positively strange in the first 32 bars, but then racking it up to some hard edged breakdance in the middle and a shifty hiphop break in the outro. Only thing I can suggest would have been to take a little more time working on the intro, other than that, this once again shows off Falloutteh KinguvKickarseness' dnb skillz0rz

If i wasnt a flaming house DJ... nah hahahaha!!

This is really a nice piece of music. I dunno it seems like the neurofunky stuff is out of place... Replace it with some screaming babies or something and i think it will really bring this mix together. Btw what do you spin on? I got me some stantons i do my stuff on.

EDIT: also you seem to be mixing kind of hastily, maybe fade out the hi hat or something before going over, part of the beat needs to match up ya know, not just the tempo. The mix should be seamless.or rather i shouldnt think "wow the whole beat just changed", like when i listen to AK1200 i cant even tell where one track ends and the next begins.

Thanks for the comments chaps.

Well, I won't pick you both up on your technical analysis. Each to their own. Most of the points you guys suggest for technique/mixing etc. I would disagree with (not in correctness, but in personal preference). I'm a pretty firm believer in there not being a "right way" to mix or structure a tune. Some methods are decidedly god awful, but aside for that, I think your mixing and element structure help define your style. This is mine.

Having said that, I do accept this is a slightly sloppy mix in places. That's what I meant by "rough around the edges" in my initial post. I didn't really have time to finish off this tune properly, but I haven't released anything on the Breakbeat Terrorism label in some months, so I wanted to keep things fresh and get something out there. My vocal tunes are taking a back seat, as I really dont have time to organise the vocalists. This was the only tune ready enough for me to finish off and get out in the morning of free time I had.

So yeah, mixing is a bit sloppy in places. The whole thing could do with an extra dose of polish, for sure. I think it also may become more evident that me and Scienide at BBT are dropping the conformity vibe with our tunes and really doing whatever we want. The amount of slow step breaks in this tune would be OTT for most dnb rollaz. In fact, there isn't a long enough playout on any of the dnb tempo sections to fit this properly in a mix, but what can I say? I don't care!

Comments still noted though guys. I'm not so far up my own arse as to ignore what you've said! I can still see some light at the end of the tunnel. ...

Feedback is good. Hopefully in the next couple of months I'll have my new vocalist onside to help me with some more mellow melodic numbers that are not so mish mashed.

Peace to ya nan!

dont get me wrong it was a great track, usually when i care to give crits i already think the work is above par. Otherwise, if i gave crits like that to a new person they would get all mad at me(and have done it before) so i only crituique either people i think can take it professionaly (like you) or someone in dire need of assistance.

I think your stuff and your style is excellent but dont ever think im tryin to beat ya down, your a much better DJ than me, i was just givin some suggestions. Now that you explain it i completely agree about the stylization and stuff.

Sometimes there are things that just need to be explained . I hate to explain tho because some people take that as excuses. Excuses for why your work sounds different and explaining why it sounds different are two different things, usually they relate to experience .

I look foreward to some more workin music under the fallout section on my iTunes , cant model or sketch without it.

@Oddmind

No offense was taken at all. Sometimes critique can sound like "this is how you SHOULD be doing it, because I know better than you". A lot of people seem to critique on that concept, when they rarely have that god-like experience to be able to give that sort of advice. That's not what I thought you were doing though, so no problemo.

@Megs

Vice versa chap. This tune has been in production for around 6 months - perhaps more. I thought it was dead, so I nicked a few samples from it for the Claymore Island sound track. I think it was only the lead synth line though. That'll explain why you might notice it goes a bit better in this tune.

@Flindiana

haha. I've considered that a few times. It's still in the library, and I dig it out now and then for a laugh. Might get polished off one day, but it'd most likely be some hybrid orchestral track with lots of slow step sections and a big of wagner and prokofiev thrown in.

@Jeku

You're right. My DJing skills are pretty lame. Don't have decks and have only spent a few hours total on decks. It's something I might pick up though when uni is done.

Heh, I've always loved orchestral stuff...that's actually mostly what I listen to, though I do like some techno (as evinced by my patronage of you and Hawkeye.)

Sounds great to me. I haven't been listening to much music posted lately because my download times were slow, I just realised that I can listen to music almost immediately now that I have Tiscali, so I'll have to check out more of your stuff!!

A Work of Dark ART!!!

never got a chance to hear this when you first posted it, but I just had a listen with my lil brother and we came to the conclusion that this tune is PWNAGE! the sample from aliens fit the tune perfectly. Darker than a matrix scorched sky.

Another monster from the forums resident junglist and another top tune for the DnB collection, nice.

cheers, Grant.
