hey, im getting a new wireless router (the one i currently have is a Netgear WGU624 and it sucks and tech support is worse). ive been looking at the D-Link DGL4300, its supposed to be REALLY good but i have a question...

a website said that this router -Does NOT Support Multi session passthrough- what is multi session passthrough?

and with this disabled, is my multisync server still operational? the router i have currently HAS multi session passthrough support... so im wondering if this could cause any problems with multisync by not having this support? does anyone (hopefully benjamin) know everything thats required for a wireless router to have for a multisync server to run on my computer?

thanks in advance

Sorry Jason, i'm not sure what that is.

If you do end up looking at other routers, i suggest taking a look at Linksys wrt54g v4 wireless router, it's the one i have and it runs great. It supports both B+G wireless types.

A speed test done while connected to my router..

Quote: ":::.. Download Stats ..:::
Connection is:: 6903 Kbps about 6.9 Mbps (tested with 5983 kB)
Download Speed is:: 843 kB/s
Tested From:: http://testmy.net (main)
Test Time:: 2006/03/04 - 8:17pm
Bottom Line:: 123X faster than 56K 1MB Download in 1.21 sec
Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 154.91 % faster than the average for host (shawcable.net)

I can't answer your question, but I can tell you this, and heed this warning!: With a wireless router you can't host online games. Most of them have a built-in firewall that can't be disabled (at least the ones I've seen). We had one at my place for a while until I found out I couldn't host Battlefield 1942, Rainbow Six 3, or any of the other games I play every day. Then I come to find out that most wireless routers have the silly built-in firewall and there's NO way to turn them off (if someone tells you otherwise, ask them to show it to you in person... they can't because it doesn't work!). Make sure you're getting one of the very few wireless routers that will allow you to host! Trust me... you'll thank me for it

Actually Matt, that sounds like all you have to do is port forwarding.. If you go into your wireless router settings and open up all of the ports, it should work.. The reason it doesnt allow you to host, is because to other computers it shows your ports as being stealthed.. If you port forward, it opens these ports up(obviously taking out the security that the routers firewall provides).

I have to say, I've personally have had TWO WRouters, and my friends have another.

all three have caused problems.

IF you have a Wireless Phone anywhere near you, you will have problems.

I suggest you get a router that has the option to autochange the channel (like my DLink DI-624), because i had all sorts of problems, then it finally found it's own channel with less static.

I had to disable a bunch of the extra features, like the speed boost and the Extended range, because my router would reboot itself every 2 minutes or so... big pain in the butt.

but my DI-624 has been the best of the three, the others i couldn't fix with anything. my DLINK is just fine now

Been there, tried that, didn't work I had some netgear POS that Time Warner gave us. The first time I called customer service, they said "sorry, you can always disconnect the router." The second time I called to talk to his supervisor, the supervisor said "let me bump you up to level 2." The level 2 guy suggested the opened port thing, and I couldn't host BF42. And none of them could speak english which made me more angry.

ya, we called netgear a total of 10 times and ended up fixing the problem ourselves...(we waited 2+ hours to get a hold of someone EACH time.. so annoying)

I have a question about wireless routers...

Does anyone know the best channel to set the wireless router on that doesnt get messed up by portable phone signals?

mines on 9, but it depends on the channels your phone is currently on, which usually, are automatically adjusted

I'm a lil confused to why so many have difficulty with the concept of multi-sessions.

All a multi-session is, is a new connection from the same computer.
In simple terms, you can't connect to another PC and copy files across while your connecting another PC or the Internet.

Well it's more PC-to-PC based stuff when it talks about passthrough, but you get the idea. You'll be limited to a single connection in any direction when you're accessing more than one system. Which quite frankly makes sense with a WiFi network given the speed is basically shared per connection.

54mb instantly goes down to something like 18mb with 2 computers + an internet connection.

it's more a case if you want to sit there downloading more than one file at once, it'll start to bitch.

i've just skimmed thru this so correct me if i'm wrong but hasn't anyone tried setting the computer as the default dmz of the route.

the dmz basically allows any traffic which the router doesn't handle - ie thru port forwarding and the admin software on the router - is passed directly to the dmz computer for it to handle
