Hello everyone, I just downloaded the basic free trial to get a feel of what DB was all about. Unfortunatly I do have a few questions that I was not either able to locate or may have missed somewhere.
1) on this free trial are we supposed to be able to make any objects animated? I was able to create a cube using the create cube 1,25..giving it a few minor attributes but when i tried to animate it I was not able to. Kept says object cannot animate. i noticed as looking through the coding and tutorials that the animated ones were all things that were done in bitmap. Is this the only way to animate an object using DB?
When i first started looking through the DB I was under the impression that we were able to make any object animate( unless of course we wanted something spectactular done in a bitmap form) I have also noticed , looking through the forum that there is a split among users between getting Milkshake and the DB canvas Pro 3d Model maker. If I was going to work on getting a system together to create simple games all the way to RPG's what do you feel is the better choice as to what one would get to create the ultimate games. I was looking at the largest package the DB has to offer , which i believe has everything. Now i have a 56k, 1.7 mhz system and im not sure with everything i have on here at the moment It can handle it , but if things work well on a few prototype games, then a new computer is in the works
Now a little about me and why the questions I work for a small but growing buisness on the web. I have been working on getting a games section in there for our users to play and enjoy. Possibly have raffles ect as a bonus to the members. Well I have some games in there, but a majority of the sites, I have struggled through emails after emails working on a fair price for the small budget a beginning company has. To no avail if you dont have at the lowest 1,000.00 for A GAME then you are out of luck. So here I am I have decided if i want the games, then I will have to learn the language and work on creating the games myself.i know many of you are saying " Do you realize how hard it is to create the games yourself?" Yeah I do know lol but with no money to pay a big programmer you do what needs to be done. I also have several books on C/C++ and a few trig books and other programming languages on my way to use for a better reference and a guide to help me through the process of creating my first( short, playable, piece of a game) Okay i think ive bored most of you so I will shut up and get back to the trial and play some more Have a great day everyone and Happy coding!

animate a cube? you aren't familiar with how it works. If you want to MOVE the cube, then just change it's position, or turn it or tilt it. If you have another meaning for animate...if you want something like an object that walks, you have to make it in another 3d program. And i've never used db 3d canvas so obviously it's not worth getting, Milkshape is better designed for modeling.

"i noticed as looking through the coding and tutorials that the animated ones were all things that were done in bitmap"

done in bitmap...? You sure you know what a bitmap is?

and get cable man! now!

Sorry everyone I did forget to ask one other question, i have searched for this throught the manual, forum, ect but was unable to locate a code snippet, or anything to help me with this. Heres something else I wanted to do...
On the cube I want to color each side a different color...Or at least change colors as it rotates around( although I cant test this until I am able to get the object to animate) If you know hoe to make each side a different color and could help me out, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

QuothTheRaven, Well looking though the tutorial I thought using the commands in there to rotate, spin the object, ect would work but it kept saying object cannot animate. What i was trying to do was make the cube spin consistantly on the xaxis, to 45 degrees then spin on the yaxis to 45 degrees then loop it all to make the object do this at all times. when this did not work I tried it right down to a basic code fromthe tutorial and it did not work. The only way anything was working from the tutorial was when the object was a walking figure.Unfortunatly i ditched the code last night when i tried it over so i cannot show what i had done, after all right now im just playing and learning.

sounds more like you were trying to use loop object or play object on a primative object which contains no animation data...
Those commands are for an object which has animation in it, you can rotate a cube like this:

try messing with the values and see what happens.

Thanks for the snippet Dat, i did however figure out how to make it spin, actually ive got it spinning on all three axises,(x,y,and z) looks pretty cool Now im working on changing the colors. Ive been messing with the timer function and randomize. i figured if i could get the timer to work with the randomize the colors could change aloing the timer. but so far I havent had any luck getting then to work( or even change colors with the randomize) but still working on it.im out for the night but hopefull tomorrow after some sleep ill think of the solution to it.

Yep, it's all too easy. You should always give yourself a go before posting 'cos what tends to happen when you post before you try is that you work it out before someone answers and then feel like your intelligence is being insulted when you get an answer
The help section in the editor is actually all you should need until you get to more advanced concepts, and then you can work through the tutorials, well worth messing with the code in them to find out some of the nuts and bolts...
Have fun, I know I am
