Hello all,

I thought I'd just throw this in the pot. Not too long ago, I just bought a 3d scanner, and it works brilliant. I scan objects only ( no characters, doesn't work too well with organic things, such as characters ), and I can convert them into x files. Yes there is money involved via turbosquid, but Im here if you need help, and no, I dont overcharge my items on there. Probably 15 - 40 dollars depending on the object. Also I have a program that reduces the polygonal count as well, so your game wont slow down as much as if you were carrying an 80 pound revolver . Anybody interested, just lay a post here.

Well, its more of a 3d digitizer. I cant scan actual drawings, but this is how it works. I can take, oh lets say, an action figure of the terminator from my room, I place it in and configure everything from the software. The scanning time, depending on how detailed I want the model and how complex it is, usually takes 4 or 5 hours...maybe more, but I just leave it in there as if it were a microwave, lol. So in sum, I can take actual physical objects, from the 'real world', and transfer them from the computer. However, dont get carried away, because there is a certain size the scanner can scan. I paid about $2,000.00 for it. Later on, I will find away to upload screenshots of my work I've done with it so far.

In the near coming future, I will be making trips to the local model shop ( physical models, you know, like back in the old days, what your gramps called a 3d model, lol ), and I will be putting together ships, tanks, cars, etc. and they will be available by architex ( turbosquid user name ). For those of you who are 'animator' enthusiasts, I encourage you to check those out as well.

Would be nice but for the moment I can model most things myself, only no characters and since you can't scan them if I readed good I can't make use of it but maybe when you post some nice screenies later maybe there will be something that may fit me

Thanks anyway for the proposition

Well you see chris, I got it for several reasons. I plan on going into the video game industry, and these devices are common in it, as well as the movie/special effects industry. Also, when I ( or if I get around to it, hehe ) go back to school taking 3d classes, I'll be ahead of the game creating excellent visualizations, called finishing my homework quickly, lol. While Im doing that ( even right now ) I plan on making a little side money on turbosquid.com as well as some other sites to increase financial income. Plus, it speeds things up a bit while or when I need a model.

PS

I did buy an actual 'scanner' about a year ago, but I got ripped off. Thing didn't even work. The Conmark l2000 scanner. ha. Manual was ALL in german, product was discontinued so i couldn't get help from the company for squat, and the thing wasn't compatible with Windows XP, so I believe. If anybody plans on getting one, I recommend you dont buy the conmark ( unless you know german, of course, lol )

Wait a second...Actually, I can provide a link on TS for you all, just remembered, I did upload a model a couple of days ago. Keep in mind that this was the first model I scanned and the prices are not going to be $60.00. Here ya go: http://www.turbosquid.com/FullPreview/Index.cfm/ID/300867

lol, Ah, dude, it's not good with making characters/people. I mean, you could, but Im just starting out by creating objects first. It's very very difficult to create characters with it, I already tried to. It's great with cars and guns though. This friday, Im going to go out and buy a mini antique car at the model shop, see what I can find.

Cool dude. I used a Picza, waaay back. I think it was the first model. Real fun stuff and a time saver.

We did do a few character models, but its a bit of work. We cut up the plastic models into different parts, scanned them, poly reduced and attached the body parts back together. Not perfect, but it gets you halfway there.

I use a poly reduction software called polycruncher. Its sweet.

Yeah, that's kind of what Im experiments with now. I ripped off the arms of this action figure, but I just cant get it the way I want it. Im thinking about learning how to sculpt with clay, that way I can just buy a pound of non-hardening clay and then I just use that stuff, but many thoughts are in the process.

I think the scanner messes up the vertices. Your gun looks a little vertex worn.

I've got a better version. Just gotta transfer it from the other computer. The reason is because the backstop got in the way and I couldn't figure out how to put it back how it originally was, but I fixed it though. new version looks waaay better.
