The movie From Justin to Kelly made me laugh more than those strips did.

Comic strips that are just the first things that come into the writers head are not funny.

Wow, that 'Gay Athiest Liberals' is just plain offensive.

Nah, it's the worst cartoon strip we've ever seen OddMind, what were you thinking? In fact if that's the standard, I'll invite my friend Tony the Amoeba to give a little stand up routine...

''Cool, I just beat Halo on the toughest level in record time.''
''I pooped my pants too.''

hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Good god that's moronic

I am firmly entrenched in the opinion that ctrl+alt+delete is the only decent web-based comic out there

Odd mind, that comic is worse then White Ninja. And saying that is pretty pathetic.

Now if you want a funny comic...

Ctrl-Alt-Delete makes me want to kill people as does this. In fact I told Tim Buckley is comics sucked and he almost cried. It was funny. But this is worse. If I met the creators of this I seriously would hurt them. Just for makign me suffer. 8-Bit Theatre on the other hand... ROCKS.

8-bit theatre: I can let that slide as the jokes are indeed before my day/aimed at FF fans. But for the horrible colours and layout alone? The creator really does deserve to die.

The best online comic I've seen yet is this one (not geek flavoured, though):
Pearls before Swine

As for geek flavoured stuff I like this one:
Ubersoft

Ubersoft would be better if it had better art. Otherwise it's just as lame as Kaiju Big Battle. xD

I'm sorry, but no matter how witty the dialog is, I just can't read Uber Soft. The art is horrible.

I would say art is of secondary importance to the humour. Some comics can have great art but if the humour isn't there, I just can't read it. Some badly drawn art that is funny (like on http://www.goaste.cx) is much more tolerable for me anyways.

I dunno if anyone shares my opinion, but isn't it called a "graphic novel" for a reason? I mean, humour in webcomics doesn't just come from the witty words in the bubbles. 50% of the humour in VGcats.com comes from the absolutly hysterical facial expressions and wild hand gestures the characters make. Sorry Jeku, but a MSpaint comic with good words just makes me lose my attention half way.

ACtually they're not called graphic novels. They are called web-comics.

Well then I guess we can stop advancing on graphics in games, because its really the storyline and gameplay we're after right? Webcomics need to look good just as anything else does, granted there are a few exceptions, but its an integral part of the comic. Hell, without graphics, comics might as well be jokebooks, right?

"Graphic Novel" comes from the putting of the word thingys and the graphic thingys together and making something that is both literature and pleasing to look at.

Sure, you can have no problem saying "Hey I read comics for the funny writing not the art" but then you're basiclly just reading a "joke book" as Saikoro said.

the phrase graphic novel came about to make adults feel better about rading comics, nothing grander than that.

That has nothing to do with what I posted. This is not a game. I'm talking about comics--- if the art is outstanding and could be hung in a museum, but it's just unfunny, then in my opinion I will not like it. But I have yet to see a good online comic where they have hilarious facial expressions-- as to me that isn't humour. Just like real television comedy isn't all about people walking into doors and stepping on rakes, etc.

And I didn't say stop advancing in art with webcomics. Hell, I'm all for good looking comics---- *IF* they're interesting to read. Same as I don't care two ways to Tuesday if Quake 3 billion looks photo-realistic and melts all video cards, if the game is boring then I won't play it. Same reason I was bored after playing 15 minutes of Doom 3, but Half-Life 2 kept me engrossed because of the interesting story.

But whatever, obviously there's something out there for everyone.

Quote: "and i was very hesitant to click that goatse link, it's not what i remember...."

And no, it's not goatse, it's goaste. *VERY* big difference there hehehe.

It's not so much that I was saying that a good looking comic is going to make or break its quality, I said that there were a few exceptions, but in general it's the better looking thing that draws you in more. I know you weren't talking about a game, but I was comparing it to that because it's an analogy that holds water. Same as why everyone loved the Lord of the Rings movies when they came out, yet not as many people were enveloped in the book or the old cartoon movies. If Spiderman had been made as a book instead of a comic, would it have its appeal? Or if Spiderman was instead graphics that had been drawn in MSPaint?
